Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Tom Lehrer picks up the beat. This is in memory of Arthur Fiedler.
Burgers charring on an open grill
Skeeters biting on your nose
Sousa marches on a brass ensem - bill
And folks in skimpy summer clothes.

Everybody knows some rockets and some cherry bombs
Are what define this holiday
Surfer dudes riding home to their moms
Won't be shooting curls all the day.

The smell of ribs is in the air
There's lemonade and watermelons everywhere
And every woman's guy is gonna try
To see if turkeys are a good thing to fry.

So watch the pyrotechnics blaze away
And celebrate 'till half past two
'Cause folks start to say on the very next day
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

Clever, timely message with an excellent last line. Appropriate shout out to Mr. Fiedler. The magic he performed with the Boston Pops is missed.

Thanks, John. I'm reminded of the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler on my favorite holiday. It's so true that businesses start thinking Christmas after the Fourth. C'mon, let us enjoy summmer.

I'm as unamerican as kangaroo pie, but I love Sousa and Fiedler, therefore this. Q - Is the sousaphone named for John Phillip?
2Eagle - July 04, 2013 - Report this comment
Thanks, Jon and Life liver - Yes, it is. Oh Sousa Q baby I love you.

Liked the Sousa reference and this had a killer last line! Happy 4th!

Local concert at our new place, presumably with some Sousa, sold out, but should enjoy fireworks (missed similar fuss at home on July 1).

Thanks, Matthias and Giorgio - Tomorrow it will be back to school, Halloween and Christmas just after we were beginning to enjoy summer. Enjoy the Sousa and fireworks.
