The Lyrics

John Jenkins gave us a Battle of Hastings song the other day. Since the History Channel has run three pieces on it in the past year, I think I now know enough about it to do this.
If you ever plan to fly out east.
Go to Hastings, get a tasting for the beast.
Get your kicks on 1066.

He sat there upon the coast of France.
When Edward died, Duke William saw his chance.
Got his kicks in 1066.

Now he sailed through the channel
on his way to battle.
On the Bridge of Stamford
Harold was hampered.
Killed the King of Norway.
Bill, he's coming your way.
Harold, time's a-wasting.
Gotta get to Hastings.
Norman, Saxon
get into the action.

Harold didn't keep eye on the ball.
That bastard, William, he did conquer all.
Got his kicks in 1066.

(instrumental break)

Harold didn't keep eye on the ball.
That bastard, William, he did conquer all.
Got his kicks in 1066.

Funny and SO timely ;) Good choice of IS, too. Go forward a few decades and you can continue the saga with "And then there's Maude . . ." 555

Good choice of OS, I meant. Stupid fumble fingers.

I was wondering, Pooch. Intermediate School? Information System? Maybe it depends on what the definition of IS is. Don't know much about the Maude in question, but having recently seen "The Lion in Winter" (set in 1183, released in 1968), maybe I can work something out there. (Unless Phil Alexander or Susanna Viljanen beats me to it.) Anthony Hopkins as the future King Richard I? An ambitious sadist with a penchant for perverse acts? If he's not careful, he could get typecast.

I like your "Hastings/wastings" couplet and your line about Harold's eye - since most accounts say that his death came from a Norman arrow that struck him in the eye. I also agree with Stray Pooch on your IS, AS, OS, or whatever.

As I suggested, a Henry II "Lion In Winter" parody has been sent in.

Good one - especially liked:

Killed the King of Norway.
Bill, he's coming your way.
