Playing Tetris, watch them,
drop, drop, drop, flip, flip, flop
They don't stop, 'til they hit the top.

Tetriminos are the,
Seven shapes of landscape in this game,
That brought it so much fame.

Multiminos consist,
Of some blocks interlocked color stocks,
Of different shades of chalk.

Gravity sucks,
Missed it aw shucks,
Got that piece stuck,
My luck!

[Intrumental Break]

One piece locks down then it,
Drops one more toward the floor,
Try to score, it never seems to bore.

Get a pure square, that's when,
Sixteen shares, form a square, with no spares,
Vanish in thin air.

Then there's cascade, it's made,
When a line, falling blind, gets entwined,
No more to invade.

Tetris master,
Make it faster,
Mock disaster,
Blast her!

This is classic! Having played the celesta part on this AND having played Tetris (the latter many more times than the former), it's especially appreciate-able! I don't think that anyone's written lyrics to this tune before, unlike the first movement of Mozart's 40th ("Mozart is locked in the closet; let him out, let him out, let him out!").

Very nice. It was a bit difficult to guess when I should be singing and when I shouldn't be, though, so a recording would be particularly useful on this one. The lyrics were certainly inspired, though. Oh, and Mari, lyrics *have* been written to this tune, as part of Bob Rivers' Buttcrack(er?) Suite. Lyrics on AmIRight, though, no.

This makes me want to go play Tetris again. 5's

Neminem - The link at the top in the comments will play the midi but it uses quicktime and some systems may not be able to play it. I had a PC once that would not install QT no matter what I did.

I was not aware that Rivers wrote anything on this. I'm not even sure who he is except his name gets tossed around on this site alot. He must be another Wierd Al I would imagine?

Must check out this Bob Rivers dude.
Stockton - December 14, 2003 - Report this comment
Very clever. Now I wanna do a non-lyric parody.

An awesome parody as usual, Guy! (I use "awesome" in the literal sense here, for it has instilled me with a sense of awe.) Could a lyrical parody of a song from "Tetrisphere" be far behind?

Great original work, Guy !! YEAH ! I agree with Stockton's comment - now I want to do a non-lyric parody, too ! I've got one in mind....heh heh heh....thanks for opening the door so-to-speak, Guy. 5's

I just love it when I get to start something new. Thanks everyone.

:-) Speaking as a Tetris-meister (like one who found out that the MS bonus pack Tetris used a signed short integer for the score), I appreciated this one more than a little bit, too...
Johnny D - December 15, 2003 - Report this comment
Gotta watch out for those signed short integers. They'll nybble your digital 'nads like there's no tomorrow.
Phil Alexander - December 17, 2003 - Report this comment
My son was wearing a pair of signed shorts yesterday...
Guy - December 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Really? Who signed them???
Phil - December 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Chap called Beckham... f*** knows which Beckham that's supposed to be: but Richard did score from a ~20 yard freekick which curled over the wall and went in off the far post (and still hasn't stopped talking about it), so maybe the shorts did have an effect.

This is perfect! Spike Jones did some pretty cool "nutcracker"-based parodying. I remember his "Dance of the Flutes" parody with the line "What could be more graceful than a hunk of tin?" But this was truly inspired! Nice work! 555

That midi link no longer works. I have submitted it for a fix using the online link fixer that now launches from the Amiright software when it senses a broken link. It appears that it is no longer browsable. Maybe our webmaster can edit this and put a link in there that works.

Restoring my 5-5-5 vote for this classical parody masterpiece.

Your parody reminds me of the Mega64 game entitled "Real-Life Tetris!" Speaking of Tetris, I'm giving this 555!
AFW - February 21, 2008 - Report this comment
Very good indeed..

555's Sir Guy, but I don't know this high-tech game; but what ever happened to Johnny ~Baby I Need Your Lovin~ Rivers?

I was referred here from my "Get Smart" "lyricless" parody of June 2008. The Midl link from here is working fine! Very clever and amusing classical parody here! I think you added an extra syllable or two here and there, but so what? 5-5-5. BTW, I remember Spike Jones' Nutcracker parody too, which is found on his album Spike Jones is Murdering the Classics!

Melanie - Thanks for looking this old timer of mine up and giving it such a nice review. Just thought you would be interested in seeing another parody of a lyric-less arrangement. I just made a comment on another parody where I had to agree with Agri when he gave an honest opinion of a writing that someone who calls himself Dr. Music tried to make into a parody. Agri gave a fair and honest opinion and the author of the parody replied rather rudely to him. I backed Agri up on that one but I have to respecfully disagree with his comment on your parody today stating that he did not consider a lyric-less arrangement to be a true parody. On that note I have to respectfully disagree with him. When I thought up the idea for this parody I'd thought it would be easy since I didn't have to follow the wording - just keep the pace. I soon found out that something was really missing when I had a blank notepad document looking me in the face and nothing to guide me. I much appreciate your feedback and I loved your parody today and was glad to see someone else do a lyric-less write. I think Johnny D. did one once sometime after I did this one, but lyric-less writes are a rare bird out here. You did something special.

The author of the parody has authorized comments, and wants YOUR feedback.
