Original Song Title:

"Odd-ball Religion, Parts 1 And 2"

Original Performer:

Phil Alexander and Susanna Viljanen

Parody Song Title:

"Odd-ball Religion: The Trinity"

Parody Written by:

Susanna Viljanen

The Lyrics

CHORUS:
Gimme that odd-ball religion
Gimme that odd-ball religion
Gimme that odd-ball religion
Seems kind o' strange to me

Some more creeds are being listed
some of them are pretty twisted
others seemly drug-assisted
but they're pretty odd to me

(chorus)

Japs they worship their ancestors
and the Shinto ma'ms and misters
Burning money for those dead sirs
That is odd enough for me

(chorus)

Some will pray with the Baha'i
Though we really wonder why
They put that mark before the "i"
But it's pretty odd for me

(chorus)

Smoking ganja 'til my throat's dry
Brings me close to Ras Tafari
God loves me when I get high
Yet it's kinda strange to me

(chorus)

How about the creed of Mormon
in tabernacle having sermon
wearing strangest kind of garment
it is pretty odd to me

(chorus)

Teachings of late L. Ron Hubbard
skeleton has in the cupboard
it can lead your life in FUBAR
and that's kinda odd to me

(chorus)

Andt the followers of voodoo
sure are basket cases too
very little sense they do
they are kinda odd to me

(chorus)

Some folks wittness the Jehova
preach the doomsday 'bout to hover
but it's not a supernova
and it's pretty odd to me

(chorus)

Then there are, of course, the Quakers
which are by no means heartbreakers
I doubt, either sense-a-makers
and they're pretty odd to me

(chorus)

The Discordians, have Eris
She belongs amongst the scaries
and I think that faith in her is
somewhat outre enough for me

(chorus)

There is also Jedi order
Freakos on the line of border
Speech has Yoda his disorder
Seems kinda strange to me

(chorus)

Should you worship the Great Chthulhu
pretty psycho sure would be you
that would make you somewhat fool-o
Seems kind of strange to me

(chorus)

Hare Krishna, Krishna Hare
chanting that is kind of scary
it may trap you if unwary
Seems kind of strange to me

(chorus)

Mithra's way is ox-blood slated
think that's little bit outdated
an inhumane, it should be stated
Seems kind of strange to me

(chorus)

And what about the folks called Moonies?
you might think they're bunch of loonies
led by team of geeks and goonies
they are odd enough for me

(chorus)

Odd are too the NDE-ers
Back from dead with strange ideas
Love and light, and vision seers
They're kind o' strange to me

(chorus)

And again, we've done a-bridgin'
of the faiths and some smidging
All that odd-ball religion
Seems kind o' strange to me
I memorized several other faiths which haven't yet been dealt with in this song. Whoa! My credits to Phil Alexander for the original Odd-Ball Religion song - without his immortal idea this song would not have been created.

For the heck of it, here is a parody of the same song by The Residents that takes 4 verses to rail on Christianity (use the same chorus): It was good for making millions Selling platitudes to pilgrims Who were bar-be-cuing children So it's good enough for me It was good for making blisters On the penises of misters Who were molesting their sisters So it's good enough for me. It was good for Sunday School Where shame and guilt were taught by fools Who were only being human So it's good enough for me So even if it's just a token It was good for giving hope To human spirits that were broken So it's good enough for me

I reckon this should be part of the Religious Studies national curriculum... thank you for the credit, Susanna :-) Makes me think:
Oh, Susanna, oh won't you pray for me
In a score of ol' religions
Well, there's more 'n twenty-three :-)

Darn, that's a good one. The only ones missed were the Baptists and Catholics. 5's

Well, there's more than 23 religions out there.. Take into account that in ancient times the common belief was that there was a god over each city, area, country, etc. Each would be considered a religion by our standards. Not to mention Seth/Osiris/Ra/Horus, Odin/Thor, Dagon, Beelzebub, Zeus/Cronus, Mother Earth, numerous native American religions, Mayan and Aztec, Ashteroth/Ishtar, Yuan-Shi-Tian-Zong/Ao-Chin/Sun-Wu-K'ung, Iglauk, Punotshiyo, Erlik, Kuan Ti, Mulungu and on and on...

Don't forget Marxism, Trotskyism, atheism, agnosticism, Jainism, Buddhism, Griswoldianism, Trekkies, less-publicized Californian cults, personal spirituality (that's several million religions right there), Freud, Self Actualization, Unitarian Universalism, Satanism, the National Socialist German Church, Wicca, Solopsism, neo-Aristotelianism, Secularism... Hell, those ancients have got nothing on us moderns for weirdness! You're never going to run out of material.
