Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"The Wonderful Jew"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Hey, Mel Gibson, eat THIS!... Inspired by the many fine shots at Gibson here (and by "The Wonder Of Me", of course). OS lyrics here.
He changed the world, and rather grandly
He came to save us from our wrong
He tried to make the world one nation
He helped the weak become the strong

Ev''rybody knows...
It's true, no lie...
And Gibson knows it too...
He is Jesus...
The wonderful Jew

As Pontius P. interrogates him,
"Are you the King of all the Jews?"
When Gibson's movie re-creates Him
Why does this simple fact confuse?

No one will ever know
The reason why
Mel, hateful stuff, should spew
Mel loves Jesus...
The wonderful Jew

[instrumental - sound effects of Gibson screaming as he is whipped repeatedly, then screaming incoherent bigotry as he "whips" the Jewish people]

If he is so devout
Why does he spout
Such cr*p without a clue?
Hey, Mel Gibson,
The Christ was a Jew!

TT avoids religious arguments, being a devout follower of the teachings of St. Phillip of Alexander, but it's jerks like Gibson who keep everyone from getting along in the first place. © 2007 Tommy Turtle. All rights reserved.

Excellent, TT... a message with wit and flair... I love the way you've ressurected this 'oldie' --giving Mel a good Mazel scoff--without lording over us too much!

Here's a conversation I recently had with a left winger friend of mine from work. The topic of religion came up and in particular Jesus Christ. I asked my friend if he was aware that Jesus was a left wing rebellious radical fundamentalist. Well, fundamentalist may be taking it a bit far especially in today's climate. Anyway he said to me "No way" and I go 'Like way". George Washington was considered a radical leftist rebel by the British crown. He is now a patriot and on our money. Just think - if you were George you'd never need ID as long as you had a dollar bill or a quarter in your pocket. My point was then made that we may well still be under the reign of the British Crown if it were not for GW and all the other great folks of that time. I explained that when rebels change the climate that old climate becomes the establishment. So I told my friend that it is we who have chosen to follow the establishment that was brought on by radicalism and this is why you all think that Jesus is not worthy to be called the Lamb of God and we are all raving Jesus freak wackos. I loved your parody and I will have one out tomorrow that I promise will be more than just a parody on the same note as yours. Great work TT and may God richly bless you.

Good Job, TT. I think even Elvis would have been proud to belt this one out.

alvin: if He has read it, He doesn't seem to have commented, unless it was under a nick... ok j/k ... that's a very nice thought. Thanks alvin. :)

pickle: lol! Thanks :)

Guy: Thanks for the very thoughtful comment. Some excellent points there. Looking forward to your parody, and the same wishes back to you, Guy.

Joe Haynes: If only he'd taken better care of his health and were here today, I'd be happy to have him do so :) Thanks for the nice comment, Joe.

My mother grew up in an Italian neighborhood, and once got into an argument and closed by saying, "Jesus was a Jew!" And the girl she was arguing with said, "No, he was BORN a Jew, he DIED a Catholic!" Unfortunately, it took her years to come up with a comeback: It's not the death that matters, it's the return. It's one reason she married a Methodist: In that church, the cross is empty, no one left hanging on it. The point is not the suffering, but the relief. Now I come to the fun part: Tommy, you amphibious mensch, take a schmeer of fives.

Michael Pacholek, thanks.... For a comeback, how 'bout the fact that the term "Catholic" doesn't even seem to appear until about a hundred years after Jesus?

Finally, a song with something good to say about Jews- not just any Jew, but the most important one of all, Our Savior Jesus Christ. I think that He would enjoy this parody, and I definitely enjoyed it too. 555

That can't be me, TT - for starters, no true "Philip" would ever have a double-L in the middle of his name, and I'm equally sure that no follower of my, er, "teachings" would avoid religious arguments ;-)

Sorry I missed this first time around - completely agree with the sentiment with ol' Mel G's bile-spewing. Even though (or especially 'cause) he got the previous pope to say "That is how it was"

Philip Alexander, I hope the families of the late
# Phillip Vellacott (1907-1997), British academic and classical scholar, known for his translations of Greek tragedy
and
# Phillip Whitehead (1937–2005), British politician, and former member of the European Parliament
don't see that comment! ... thought I was putting you in some pretty good company there. And since the one-L'ed Saint Philip the Apostle was one of the twelve original disciples of the subject of the song that brought you here, I figured you'd rather not receive a similar appelation -- I mean, appellation :-)

I get in enough arguments on my own already (like, say, economics?) without adding yet another topic (hence, "dbfc"). Thanks for the vote, comment, and correction :-D

When I was a child, I recall that every Easter there would always be some pathologist on TV explaining in graphic detail the mechanics of crucifixion and the medical ramifications of death by this means. I watched a VHS of Gibson's movie. A bloodbath that detracted from the true meaning of the Christ. I turned down a chance to see "Apocalypto".
Tommy Turtle - July 09, 2011 - Report this comment
Patrick: Many people have pointed out that if Gibson's movie were about anyone else, it would have been rated *at least* R for strong violence. ... actually, a good bit of the Bible would be X-rated: incest, adultery (King David among them), etc.

Turns out that Gibson was the child of an abusive, alcoholic father, which explains a lot, but doesn't excuse it. He gets tortured in a lot of his movies.
I agree that the focus on the execution detracted from the message of the life. Thanks for the v/c.
