The Lyrics

Continues yesterday's salute, "Almost Heaven, South Australia" ... Down Under is so wonderful that the verses went "a little" beyond the OS -- must have gotten distracted.

Below Equator lies Australia
The grandest place you've ever found
And once you find it, words will fail ya
Although it seems you're upside down

You're at six o'clock
Guess that explains
Why things look as they do
It's Down Under:
A wonderful view!

There's nothing like it on the planet
Why, I could stay for oh, so long
And nothing else can match it, can it?
So I salute it in my song

Yes, ev'ryone should try
This magic place
Just ask my good friend, Stu
Go Down Under
You're way overdue!

And did you hear of my friend, Sydney?
He went down there and had a ball
He 'bout got lost in jungle, didn' he?
It seems he didn't mind at all!

You could get lost, yourself
No one complains
And neither, Sir, will you
Go Down Under,
And you'll love it, too!

Go roam the wetlands for a while
Check out Australia's Stubble Quail
Behold the awesome crocodile
With gaping jaws and massive tail

And if you're lucky, find
A cozy pouch
In some warm kangaroo
Ahh, Down Under:
The sweet honeydew

Down Under, you could hang for hours
Hop on that bus and go downtown
Be sure to stop and smell the flowers
Just have a look and nose around

And on your honeymoon
You should go there
Take her to some place new
Go Down Under
It's fun for her, too!

TT - I think here you've picked up on the fact that, apart from "failure" the main word that rhymes with Australia is "genitalia" - you didn't use it I know, but the whole parody was a beautifully slyly written tribute to it, or downunder activities involving it, no less

On a recent weather report here, the reporter pointed to the map of Tasmania, and innocently said "looks like it's pretty wet down there" to much guffawing in the background - have another look at the map of Tasmania to get the gag - great wordplay and rhyming btw TT - 555

Stuart McArthur: :) :) :)

OMG. The map of Tasmania... the resemblance is -- eerie. Surely an argument for Intelligent Design. Creation's "private" joke, so to speak?

Similar famous gaffe on a local news station here in the US. There's a stupid custom among newscasters that every change of topic has to have a clever segué, even if it's totally unrelated. So, the news anchors were "handing off" to the (female) weather reporter, like so: "It's warm and wet in the city this morning. Let's see how Jessica Jones is doing -- is she warm and wet as well?"

Also, see the gaffe posted by Chucky on the home page on Oct. 19, linking to YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHxDr0xdpU4. Super video of female anchor saying...

p. s. One of the benefits of being a diligent researcher is the occasional comedic serendipity. The "Stubble Quail" lol - does that not sound like, well, ... like a well-mowed Tasmania? :-) ... thanks for the kind words, Stu. Get your ars on that Qantars jet some day -- by now, there're about three cold cases waiting fer ya. (Do you guys get any Mexican beers? Care for Dos Equis Amber?) Cheers, Mate!

lyrics from a painters and Dockers song called Nude School:

"The sign says geography lesson
map of Australia on the wa-all
I only look at Tasmania
the one place I adore-ore"

and I heard this myself last week on radio, whilst talking about cockatoos, male host to female guest "You've had a cockatoo" - she started giggling - he took a while to realise

and re Mexican beers, only Coronas that I know of

(p.s. something tells me a cockatoo or a Tasmania parody is in the gestation stages)

Looking forward to your cockamania ... .you'll probably have to explain the tazzz- Mania joke to others as you did for moi .

Dos Equis is Spanish for "XX" (two Xs). Their lighter beer is similar to Corona. The amber is a bit darker, stronger, fuller-flavored, but not like a fully dark beer. Think I'll have one (and one for you) and hit the sack. (btw, "wall" and "adore" don't rhyme over here in pronounce-the-R-land, but it's still a good one :)

I'd walk a million miles for one of its smiles. Which segues nicely into the following observation:

The Angels had a song entitled "No Secrets". Among the lines was "She keeps no secrets from you". The song also included "The smile she keeps - she keeps for you".

It is generally considered that The Angels were singing of Tasmania...

Peregrin: DK that band or OS, sorry, Mate. Twenty years before them, we had a girl group by the same name, known for their biggest hit, "My Boyfriend's Back". ... Of *course* TT has parodied it -- twice -- but I'm plugged out for a week, at least. Not to mention that I'm afraid that any more plugs, and you might "plug" me. (US-only? "to shoot someone, using a gun".)
Whichever, can't help but agree on that particular "smile". :) :) :) ... (and thanks for explaining the back-story)

! Follow-up Idea! -- OS: "Maniac", from "Flashdance".

"She's a maniac"
"We're Tasmaniacs"
I'm about writ out (!) for a while, so it's all yours, Mate! Give "Tasmaniac" a go! (so to speak). (e-mail me if you do. Not here very often, and hate to miss it.)
