The Lyrics

Assuming it's posted--and if it's not, you won't be reading this anyway--this should raise to 75 my displayed tally on the "Authors" list. For reasons the second verse implies and the next-to-last explains, the woulda/shoulda/coulda-been count is arguably 74, 75, or 76. Not that it matters -- as Orleans might put it, "I'm still havin' fun and Mal's still #1." :-)
"Seventy-six Lampoons"

Seventy-six lampoons, if this makes the grade,
off to this site I’ve sent, and have more planned,
and now I suppose if those draw fewer bashings than kudos
amiright will continue to be Stanned.

Even my nixed lampoon, and I did send one
in the “Major Gen.” form vignetting “plastic pine,”
Tho’ by our host declined -- “Don’t need” -- (and it’s _his_ site, I concede)
’twas too fun to write for me to mind.

Here a proper lot o’ Tin Pan Alley farcers’ tunes
thundering fun do bring ev’ry single day:
tubs o’ well-hewn phonies come in by platoons --
by next-day noons, they’re on display.
With a fifty count of Stan-songs in my battery,
wondering could plundering songs become a bore,
dare I bet this exercise will someday soon not tantalize,
I scorned the very thought and wrote some more.

Seventy-six lampoons now make my parade
if one that's twice-stored I count, and one not here
(the latter is thanks to a bong of the censorial gong
the former is my own mistake, I fear).

Seventy-six lampoons to which I now can point,
include a few good, some bad, and most just fair.
But I’ll modestly cook up plays on songs ’til I can ape the ways
that amiright’s top pooh-bahs craft their fare.

© Stan Hall ... It's a damned good thing I _am_ still having fun, too, as my approximately 1.3 submissions/day since stumbling into this place on 101/09/08 would _never_ catch up to the leaders were that a goal. :-)

Thanks, Alvin ... this was a fun one to write, even at risk of seeming to ... er, blow my own horn. :-)

An excellent re-do of Meredith willson's classic........Great inner rhymes and perfect pacing to a very tricky lyric...that I too, once struggled through....."Seventy Six" that's the spirt..as they say
