Batwoman (aka Kate Kane) is not Batgirl grown-up. in fact, she was introduced in the 1950s before Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) as an effort to refute claims that Batman and Robin were homosexual. The original BW was an heiress that was inspired by Batman to use her resources to fight crime and she had a brief romance with Bruce Wayne. But the modern incarnation has been radically revised as the daughter of a US Army Colonel that had been kicked out of the US Military Academy for being a lesbian. Supported by her father who built her an underground bunker with weapons and an early armor suit, she evolved into BW after being recruited to spy on Batman. Discovering his identity, she crafted her own batsuit and started to prowl Gotham on her own. She also has a live-in female lover Renee Montoya that works with the Police. She has keen detective senses, and military skills that allow her to perform much like Batman. DC wanted to appease the Gay Rights Community and so several of its traditional heterosexual heros are now LGBT...
