The Lyrics

The "Knock-Out Game" has become a serious crime that has plagued the US since the 1990s when "Grand Theft Auto" came out. In that game a criminal empire allows thugs to carjack, beat people, and kill prostitutes, among other vile acts. After that someone invented the KO Game which has a goal of randomly picking out someone on the street to punch and knock-out with one blow. Money is seldom involved as a bet, the award posted on YouTube with view counts. Very sick. Seniors and others have died and the police have noticed a surge everytime a new GTA game comes out- the latest "Grand Theft Auto V."
Came from “Grand Theft Auto?”
KO time…

Goal is one punch KO for youths
Some f-cked up sh-t
Innocent get hit

People have died from it
Bein’ punched around
Some hits turned out deadly
Seniors died after hitting the ground

[Cali to D.C. the dares abound]

Came from “Grand Theft Auto?”
It’s KO time…
Warped minds

Since ‘92
Gangs of youth
Pattern used
Surge when games are released
And they don’t care
‘Bout fatalities
Random strikes, no beef

[Most live, lose some teeth]

Insanity
Came from “Grand Theft Auto?”
It’s KO time…
(Video game violence turns reality)

Blaming Grand Theft Auto, among other M-rated games, for the incidents, reeks more of scapegoating. Even as an avid GTA player I know the fine line for things - it just boils down to lax parental supervision nowadays, not necessarily on the games. Heck, Faux "News" and most of the other yellow journalists delight on making a quick buck out of bashing any media franchise the kids are into.

Hey, I'm not blaming GTA overall for real-world violence, but just suggesting that the mentality of first person shooters and other "thug life" games CAN lead to this behavior. Life imitating art with fatalities. Many of the massacre shooters played FPS video games. Many of the "Nintendo Jockeys" of the USAF that operate drones to kill in real-life with real-time results ALSO played those games. And the people that I know that love thug lifestyles of ink, drugs, weed, & blood play GTA not for the driving but really?... carjacking, foul language, beating a prostitute to death and then robbing her? Drinkin' 40s and drivin' low-riders, hoopties? I can see that anyday in SC LA, Compton, even Del Paso Heights and Oak Park in SACtown. I suggest GTA players (teens, 20-30 bangers, and other thugs) try FPS military games instead and get a job in the military or Intel. Intel is better b/c you get to call the shots and let the tip of the sword die in CQB overseas!!! Btw, having been an operator with AKs and other arms, I find these comments amusing. I heard a lady in Long John Silver's the other day complain of being sniped at by her next door neighbor armed with a pellet rifle! I wanted to tell her to shut up and try facing an AK or a sniper rifle in .300, .30-06, .308, or .338LM!!! The Vietnam vet next to my table gave her dirty looks too! If you love GTA as "just a game"- fine... but realize that some psychos now have made elements of it a new national fad-crime. How would you like to be "knocked the f-ck out" "Friday" style on the street minding your own business? And worse are attacks on the elderly. Anyone with any morals would be offended and GTA started this fad with surges every single time a new version came out- that's why it made the news due to GTA V. Fact.

You're an idiot and LPG-Unit is right.
Rob Arndt - November 29, 2013 - Report this comment
Name-calling by an Editor for this site? How unprofessional. And the facts remain despite what you both think. Everytime a new version of GTA has appeared the KO Game assaults surge. Again, this has been reported many times before and the perpetrators themselves that have been caught credit GTA as the reason. So how am I the idiot here? I notice that you people that attack always fail to engage me with the bulk of my info. Hey Brian, got anything to say about the Nintendo Jockeys and their air combat gameplay that led to USAF jobs with Predators, Reapers, and Sentinels? Or do you want to rebuke the various Police Depts that have compiled info on the KO Game? No... b/c they aren't offering opinion- just compiled and filed facts on this form of criminality with its credited origin. Come back when you have real ammo to fight with, not blanks ;-)

Whadya expect from a Phil Collins fan!!!
Brian Kelly - November 29, 2013 - Report this comment
First of all, cite your source. Second of all, I have played every Grand Theft Auto game that's come out and completed every one since 3 and there has NEVER been a mission where you have to physically assault an innocent person at random. As long as crime has existed, there have been criminals trying to lay the blame for their crimes on something other than themselves. Before there were video games, they blamed movies and television. Before movies and television, they blamed books. Before books, they probably claimed influence from the gods. The fact that you're accepting such an excuse from a criminal makes me glad you're not a lawyer or in law enforcement (hopefully). Third, Phil Collins is awesome and that is a fact.
Rob Arndt - November 30, 2013 - Report this comment
This should be fun! First of all Brian, anyone can Google this fad crime under AP, Reuters, etc... as it HAS been reported several times over. Second, people HAVE been influence to assault and kill over books (Mein Kampf, The Turner Diaries, and even poor SR had to hide under SAS protection for years due to the Islamic world wanting to kill him for The Satanic Verses)!!! As for movies, murders were committted historically from the beginning with the first blockbuster "Birth of a Nation" which was a Klan movie. Other morons took dares to lay in the street due to a movie scene and got hit! More still are influence to do drugs and alcohol due to television and movies, imitating small and bigscreen idols that look cool with bad habits. I noticed that you completely ignored the "Nintendo Jockeys" facts (b/c I would wipe you out with anything military) AND didn't respond to the various Police Depts that have reported the crimes and surges to the news outlets. Do you think they make stuff up? And finally, what kind of person that plays GTA ignores violent carjacking assaults and prostitute assaults and other random street violence to glorify a thug-life game? I played all of those too with my brother, friends, and nephews. There are even vehicular assaults!!! And as for Phil Collins, well, he's an awesome drummer... but has accomplished less in his entire life than Gaga has in 4 years now ;-)
Brian Kelly - November 30, 2013 - Report this comment
I ignored the "Nintendo Jockeys" comments because they were IRRELEVANT. And I seriously doubt you've played any Grand Theft Auto games because only "San Andreas" and "V" have had any street gang or "thug life" themes. And your entire argument is moot because you said that the "Knockout Game" started in 1992. "Grand Theft Auto 1" wasn't released for another five years. And who cares if Phil Collins hasn't accomplished as much as Lady Gaga? He's still accomplished a lot and was a great singer up until he retired.

Oh, and two more books that have killed millions: the Bible and the Koran!!! Btw, Brian, we are way past TV and movies with the Internet. Do you condone all the violence that has been caused by cyberbullying (induced teen suicides), sexting, and posting assaults on YouTube? You DO know that the KO Game attracted attention due to posting some of the assaults online b/c that is the reward!!! These are basic facts, so if you consider me an idiot, what does that make you :)

What does anything in that comment have to do with anything I've said? You've gone way off topic. I'm not condoning any of that. I just want you to stop demonizing gamers.

Brian, seriously- did you even look at my title of this parody which has a ? mark at the end and NOT an ! mark? In my first reply I said that if you love GTA as "just a game-fine!" How many anti-gaming parodies have I done out of 2243? Hmm... none really as this one is open-ended. And YES I played ALL the GTA games along with all the First and Third Person Shooters (my favorite type of game along with the cult of "BloodRayne")!!! So I got the release date wrong- I tried to go from memory. In the news the reports state that with GTA this KO Game originated and in related news with massacre shooters, most played these games too and so show off on Social Media with pics of guns and other weapons... then go out and commit crimes with them. To say that is a mere coincidence is being naive in the extreme. I just should have said in MY experience with people that love GTA the common factors here in Cali are thug lifestyle, ink, alcohol and recreational drugs. I really have never met a majority that simply liked car gaming. My brother was the one that owned those and he and his buddies idolize thug life. I do not. To deny that at least some percentage of GTA fits that profile and that it has spawned this fad crime would be an act of open denial. I play FPS and have had extensive gun training. Was I influenced by games? Well, I started shooting at 7 yrs old and worked my way through civvy to miltech weapons through various legal-illegal sources. So no, I already had a love of guns. But I have several friends that were not shooters of any kind until they played MoH, CoD, etc... and then went out and bought auto pistols and sporters. So games apparently DO influence people in the same way as the television, movies, Internet, and books have which YOU brought up and to which I countered effectively. Your evasion on key topic points is noted. Btw, WHY DON'T YOU write Pro-Gaming parodies? I already HAVE since I owned almost all gaming systems from Atari- PS-4! I never "demonized" gamers as I am ONE. All data used in my lyrics came from AP and my home newspaper. I didn't exaggerate anything but put the ? mark there to leave it open-ended as a topic. You and LPG-Unit went overboard in fury for no good reason at all. I wonder if your POVs would change if your loved ones or yourselves fell victim to this vile act??? Can you answer that honestly? NFR
Brian Kelly - November 30, 2013 - Report this comment
I didn't say that games, movies, television shows, books, etc. influenced people to do bad things. I said that people have been using them to blame their activities on for a very long time just like you are. Has it occurred to you that maybe the parties in question played these games because they fit in with their interests? Those geared towards violence would surely find enjoyment in violent media. And I have written pro-gaming song parodies. Take "Original Sims" for example. And the mere fact that there's such a negative response to this one means you probably should have given it some thought before posting or even writing it. When I write song parodies, I aim to entertain, not try to offend people potentially.
Merry... WTF??? - December 01, 2013 - Report this comment
Mr. Kelly, have you been living under a rock?
This site is filled with parodies that offend someone over something almost everyday! Take parodies of a political nature alone from Mr. Pacholek, Jeff in Va., Callmelennie, or Ribber!!! Nothing but fighting and endless debating of issues.
Others post offensively on celebs, sporting events, religion on occasion, or current events that piss someone off. The response is usually unabombing sprees.
I don't game, but it doesn't take a genius to see how very violent the games have become since Playstation and X-Box arrived. Even Wii gave in with violent games. People do tend to imitate things they see in life and in various forms of entertainment, be it tv, movies, or games.
The fact that you and Mr. Arndt are arguing this to death on a fun parody site shows how little either of you care about decency.
This pointless bickering belongs on a forum, not on AIR :(
