The Lyrics

The CAC CA-15 looked like a Mustang on steroids! It was started in 1943 with a concern for an indigenous fighter/bomber-escort but troubles began over the engine selection and whether or not Australia should license-build the Mustang. CAC went from P&W R-2800 over to a RR-Griffon Mk 61 of 2035 hp. Because of the delays the CA-15 missed WW2 completely and flew in 1946 with a level speed of 448 mph and 502 mph in a short dive (4000 ft). It was to be armed with 6x .50 cals and could carry two 500 kg bombs if needed. But the German jet influence and aircraft progression led to the program's cancellation and by 1950 the sole prototype was scrapped. FWIW, it was a nice desing but really no great improvement over the P-51 Mustang and amazingly actually lower performance than a Me Bf 109K-4 which had superior speed, climb, ceiling, and armament!!!

I think this would have worked very well against the Japanese considering where Oz is located! Nice looking too- like an oversized Mustang, But I think the radial engine at 2,300 hp would have made it faster. IMO, you can NEVER have enough raw power for a fighter! Good show, Robbie! Imagine this sucker modified for Reno!!!

DC, I like the Kangaroo but would prefer a P-47N instead or better yet- the XP-72 Superbolt. For inline engine the P-47H. Not a Mustang fan so no P-51D nor P-51H. It's funny to me that the Germans had a P-51 looking a/c in the earlier Fw-190C Kangaruh: http://www.focke-wulf190.com/images/fw190C.jpg http://rareaircraf1.greyfalcon.us/picturesd/g57.jpg
