Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Another crude Home Guard weapon of 1940 was the ad hoc Northover Projector which looked like a "Drain-pipe on a tripod" (as it became known)! Made of a simple barrel and uncomplex charging handle that once cocked set up a simple firing pin to be driven forward to ignite a cap that set-off a black powder charge that could throw a crude grenade hopefully up to 200 yds (possibly 300 for max. effective range). A slightly more elaborate version was designed by two members of the Buckinghamshire Home Guard. They produced a Northover 'Revolver' Projector which had a five-chambered revolving magazine. Each of the chambers was loaded from the front, the magazine was rotated using a ratchet lever, operated by hand. As each chamber came in line with the barrel, the trigger self-cocked and then just had to be fired. This projector weighed 86lb and could easily be operated by two men.
Projector was crude
in 2.5 (in)

Northover Projector produced
Grenade firin’
200 yards tryin’

Home Guard had to have it
Lacked AT rounds
Grenades could be deadly
“Drain-pipe on a tripod” weapon sound

[But it could only launch single rounds]

Projector was crude
in 2.5 (in)
Yet survived

It was crude
It was crude
It was crude
Just pin, cap, black powder
Could take much wear
Simple as could be
Low firepower

[Parts were scoured]

Looked funny
Projector was crude
in 2.5 (in)
(Home Guard’s desperate needs)
