Original Song Title:

"Has Anybody Seen My Gal"

Original Performer:

The California Ramblers

Parody Song Title:

"Has Anybody Seen My Rabbi"

Parody Written by:

Bob Kovitz

The Lyrics

Five foot two
He’s a Jew
He can read the Torah too
Has anybody seen my rabbi?

Not too tall
Kind of small
He looks like a matzoh ball
Has anybody seen my rabbi?

Now if you run into
A five-foot Jew
Blessing his wine
Give him bread.
And pat his head
Tell him Mogen David’s fine

(He) walks to shul
Some twenty blocks
He’s got breath
That smells like lox
Has anybody seen my rabbi?

555, although the pacing would have worked better with "mohel."

Agreed with John. Mohel (Moil) has better pacing and comedic implications

Missing a verse or two, nudnik.

Wow! Thanks to a clever parody and enlightening comments, I now know what mohel and nudnik mean.

Of course "mohel" would have worked, and would have opened up the parody to most of the tired jokes about cutting. I think the main problem is that "rabbi" is two syllables. I could have used "reb," but I doubt that most people would understand that. Thanks for the feedback--writing good parodies is a fun skill to have.

Four for the pacing, but otherwise fives for humor. I would have written "Has anybody seen mein reb?", or "Has anybody seen Rebbe?".
