Part 9 of "The Unfortunates". This section is between actual full songs but is all to music. I include it for the benefit of those who are following the whole story.
MILDRED’S PREDICAMENT
Alfred
You’re someone new, I haven’t seen you before.
It’s all right dear! You’ll be safe with me, I’m sure.
I just want to help, are you at odds with the law?
Mildred
I must thank you but no, but please let me pass.
Alfred
This is no trick. No need to fear!
Mildred
I’m sure it’s not.
Alfred
But you need help, you poor ol’ dear!
And quite a lot.
Though I may be a tramp I was once in the army
I’ve seen active service all over the world.
They then kicked me out ‘cause they thought I was barmy
I didn’t have anything else I could do.
My whole life then unfurled!
Mildred
I hear you, you poor man, and life must be rough!
Even the likes of poor people like me
Haven’t had it that tough!
Alfred
I lost my way, ended up on the streets
I had nowhere to go, you see.
This stupid lot, they made me suffer,
After serving my country well.
What an insult to my life and to me!
Mildred
You poor man, I wish I could help,
But I’m not well, as you can see.
Alfred
Watch what you say, here’s the police!
Alfred
