The Lyrics

Well, it's bah-humbug time, so let's get started. My first Butchered Christmas Carol of 2006:
Arrest these filthy congressmen, they're just a bunch of schmucks!
They hang out with Abramoff to try and make some bucks.
Mark Foley seeks out teenage boys with e-mail notes so lewd,
It looks like he wants to see them nude, see them nude,
The GOP is getting really crude!

Now George Allen dug his grave with racial epithets,
But Corker tried it anyway, guess what? He won his bet!
They all say they are pro-life, but through the bills I searched,
The only one they passed, stem-cell research, cell research!
They'll spend tax bucks on their stem-cell research.

The voters said they'd had enough, Republicans lost out!
Pelosi's now the Speaker of the Crooked House.
Now Democrats will take their turn with pulling lots of crap,
They've always proven really good at that, good at that,
Two years from now we'll hate the Democrats!

What, no further punishments for Alcee Hastings the grafter or Jack Murtha the bribe-seeker? You Dims are all a pack of law-breaking hypocrites, just like your favorite molestor Gerry Studds, and you ought to be getting rectal probes in Shawshank for your crimes.

Ooooooooh! So close to a five! But I had to dock you a point for the last verse. The Democrats haven't proven themselves to be anything in Congress in the last 12 years, except a rubber stamp for Bush the last 6!

The last verse which Drez apparently didn't read!!! Sorry, but I have to pick on both parties here. I do agree the Dems have backed Bush on precisely the issues where they needed to stand up to him.--MM

As someone who butchered his first carol of the year today, too, I thought I had to comment: tho' the subject matter is a bit too out-of-the-way for me, I completely concur with the last verse. And it gets the Title of the Day award, IMO :-)
Ravyn Rant - December 05, 2006 - Report this comment
Can't argue with any of the political points/opinions, but I have to take issue with the pacing - I noticed several missing syllables, starting with the second line. (Including Abramoff's first name would have matched TOS' pacing perfectly.) 434

Agree with Ravyn on the pacing...particularly that second line, "Jack Abramoff" would have just NAILED the pacing, otherwise I might have overlooked your pacing gaps here, so I gotta dock ya there. 4-4-4, but good points. Of course, I think you and I disagree on the stem cell issue, but that's neither here nor there on this piece. It was pretty good work. I think it's kind of funny that Drez would consider you a Democrat...I would never have assumed that off of what I've seen. Your piece here shows a rather Independent streak, I think.

Not bad at all, but I agree there were some pacing problems. 444

Excellent title. Some people think that one political party is completely virtuous and the other party is completely villainous. I agree with the theme of this parody that such thinking is narrow minded.

Thanks for your comments. About the pacing, that really depends on how you count words like "they" and "it". IOW, do they get a full beat or are the relegated to a grace note before the first beat or between beats. I chose the former at least in most cases. If you try singing "they" as a normal word, the second line should fit, for example.-----MM

Do I really see a comment from John Jenkins? Where ya been, man? I couldn't agree more.

And more kudos, Michael, on a wonderful title.
