Parody Song Title:

"My Bonnie is Doing His Astro"

Parody Written by:

Susanna Viljanen

The Lyrics

"Astro" means doing astronomical (stellar ) navigation, using celestial bodies (Sun, Moon and stars) as the navigational objects. I was 21 when I took my own stellar navigation examination with my dad. My husband is now doing the same this winter.
My bonnie is doing his astro
my bonnie is studying the stars
My bonnie does practise with sextant
He no more spends evenings at bars

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

My bonnie does trigonometry;
he Nautical Almanac reads
My bonnie takes sines and the cosines
he knows now what LHA means

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

My bonnie is studying the currents
my bonnie knows weathers and winds;
my bonnie learns where lie the doldrums
he knows clouds and all of those things

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

My bonnie reads nautical rulings;
he knows now the ships by their lights;
He learns how to arrange the watches
he learns how to nav'gate at nights

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

My bonnie is learning the gadgets
The radio, radar and log
The GPS is nice and handy
so we won't get lost in the fog

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

My bonnie knows now scale of Beaufort;
the wind speed in metres and knots
So we will survive any weathers
just be they the storms or sun hot.

Oh bring back, oh bring back
oh bring my old bonnie to me, to me
He's geeky, he's nerdy
Just getting too brainy to me

What a science-y satire, Suzie!! A "stellar" performance! Your "bonnie" has found 5 Little Dippers, 5 Ursa Majors, and 5 Ursa Minors in the sky!

You have more guts than I do...I've thought about doing science-related parodies, but I couldn't come up with ways to make the subject relatable to the masses...You've done this very well here!!!...555!!!

*smile* We are planning to upgrade our boat, and I want my hubby to be able to navigate at high seas as well (so that I'm not the only one who can do it when the GPS ceases functioning). But given to the enthusiasm of us geeks on any thing scientific, he's taking it as seriously as my dad took it years ago...
