The Lyrics

Yikes! The dollar buys squat these days. Though the failures of currencies in Germany, Argentina, and Zimbabwe are infamous, (wagon loads to buy a loaf of bread), it's less known that *all* unbacked fiat paper eventually reaches its intrinsic value of zero. (Two former U S fiat money flops are the "continental" during the Revolution and the "greenback" of the Civil War.) At one point, prior to replacement by the Euro in '02, the Greek drachma reached a note denomination of 100 billion. That piece of scrip probably bought you a roll of toilet paper, --if you were first in line, ahead of hourly price hikes. Today's unbacked "Federal Reserve Note" has already lost 95-98% of its value since 1913, and untold trillions more are currently being created. A grand scam, with prices always rising, dollars are truly beginning to look a lot like drachmas..

They're beginning to look a lot like drachmas..
Everywhere you go
Hock your watch for a five and ten
Groping for cash again
One grocery bag, a c-note now you owe..

They're beginning to look a lot like drachmas..
Price hikes ev'ry store
But the scariest sight to see's
The eviction that will be
On your own front door!

[ Melody change, with bounce, while rubbing sticks together to stay warm.. ]

A pair of smelly-old-boots and a lady-hirsute
Home's a van, the beater won't start
Oh what a treat there'll be more beans to eat
And the thrill of lighting a fart!

--And shithead kids can hardly wait to steal your shopping cart--

They're beginning to look a lot like drachmas..
Everywhere you go
Taking pees in the Grand Hotel
Out in the park as well
The drunken kind to write 'life sucks' in snowww

They're beginning to look a lot like drachmas..
Fed Note's almost through
And the thing that will make it blow
Is the wagon that you tow
Just to buy more brew

(Stocking up, at today's prices..)

By 1946 the entire quantity of Hungarian Pengö notes in circulation was worth about half a US cent. Unlike the German Mark in 1923, the Hungarian bills were still nicely printed on the same quality paper as pre-war bills. Of course, our government would like to eliminate currency if it could. I've seen pictures from Zimbabwe or a neighbouring country in which the proprietor of a toilet had posted a sign not to flush Zim Dollars down his commode.

Hi Patrick, thanks, and interesting stuff on the Pengos and Zims. Reminds me of the stories of the Germans burning their reichmarks in their fireplaces to stay warm. I used to think the Fed banksters would try to continue letting the air out semi slowly but now I'm thinking they just want to trash it and introduce a new phony bill. Good luck to us all!
