The Lyrics

NOTE: As a long-serving teacher and frequent victim in my youth, I am brutally aware of the physical and psychological damage caused by bullying. That said, with all hell breaking loose in Wisconsin and the Middle East, unemployment, the national debt, and (now) Japan's disaster, hasn't the President anything more important to do than host a public "summit" about bullying? Ever since November, he has been curiously missing in action (but not his policies). Hasn't the First Lady enough to do policing the nation's dinner tables? I guess such a warm fuzzy photo and good press opportunity is like junk food...too tempting to pass up. Am I a cynic? I prefer the term "lapsed idealist"! ;D

We had a big bullying summit.
We hosted it in the White House.
'Twill counter my approval plummet.
Good pic-op for me and my spouse.
Good press, low stress.
Lots of kids, teachers, and cops - for props.
Much less - distress.
A chance for some great photo-ops.

Gas prices have gone through the ceiling.
The government's drowning in debt.
The whole Middle East is now reeling,
But here we'll look good you can bet.
Fed's broke - no joke,
But we'll take time off to preach - and teach.
Don't choke, blow smoke.
I used to just give a great speech!

We know it's a problem already,
But one that we rather would switch
With bailing out Fannie and Freddie
Or dealing with Boehner and Mitch.
Bullies? Oh, please!
Which folks will always abuse? Fox News!
The Tea - Parties:
There's bullying in all their views.

Some use threats and intimidation.
We'll make all this stuff go away.
We con-demn all mean confrontation!
(Like up in Wisconsin today?)
Job One - begun.
All will be charmed by us two - it's true.
Well done. Game won.
We've naught more important to do.

Stick to the big stuff, but if you want to curtail bullying, start with S.E.I.U.! ;D

We have a school system and bullying debate over here too (with a touch, also though minor, of the Chinese Tiger Mom competition aspect) so I can identify with the constant and nauseating photo-ops over actuall content angle. By the way, George Bernard Shaw said "The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it" so you're in good company. :-)

As always, you punch out a very good point...were you in debating class in school?

As a victim of frequent school bullying, I know it's a real problem, but the feds are most likely the ones preventing school authorities from taking effective measures to stop it. You captured the spirit of this administration perfectly in this parody. Perhaps what they need is some humility. Some problems are simply beyond the ability of our government to handle. Recognize it. Stop throwing money.

As T.R. might have said: "Bully!"

Ah, now we know what "bully pulpit" means. Where is the 1-bully?
The Obamas' real purpose is to intrude further into school life, and to repress what is a natural instinct in so many species' young. 5s.
