Parody Song Title:

"Gila Monster"

Parody Written by:

Jeff "Dr Chordate" Moran

The Lyrics

You may have to get out a copy of the melody to Havah Nagila in order to follow the syllables of this parody . . .
I have a Gila monster, I have a Gila monster, I have a Gila monster venomous.
He is a lizard with a knobby skin and he lives in the southwest desert dust.

November until Jan-
Uary, hibernate.
After emergence flicks
His tongue to find a mate.

My Gila monster has venom glands in its lower jaws and this
Venom has a lot of compounds that can cause edema and hemorrhage and pain;
Exenatide for treating type two diabetes.
Gilatide improves mem’ry.

I have a Gila monster, I have a Gila monster, I have a Gila monster venomous.
He is a lizard with a knobby skin and he lives in the southwest desert dust.

/ Pacing is mandat'ry / It's a necessity / Highlights the gags you'll see / In parodies./ / Spoofs should be singable / Elsewise hands wringable / Effort is flingable / Tighten style, please.

Yeah, you're right. I saw immediately after I hit "submit" that a change I had "entered" didn't get saved: I have a Gila, I have a Gila, I have a Gila monster venomous . . .

I hate to see the OS, a favorite of mine, beaten up. The answer may lie in several rounds of polishing the work by singing it until the parody 'fits' the original. Or to say it palindromically, "Burden gila? Tone not aligned? Rub."

Ever since Tommy Turtle passed away, the issue of pacing has not been policed as well as it should be. Close adherence to the melody and spirit of the original is part of what makes an outstanding parody.
