To paraphrase Sam Seaborn from "The West Wing," when I one-bomb somebody, I put my name on it. You want to be safe, you get rid of the guns, you don't get more of them. We HAD "good guys with guns" in Uvalde, and they made things much worse. And those cops actually WERE members of a well-regulated militia. Not well enough, apparently. Everybody who sees himself as "a good guy with a gun" thinks he's going to be John Wayne taking down Liberty Valance to protect Jimmy Stewart. In reality, 99 out of 100 of them would be Fredo Corleone, unable to properly handle the gun, and too late to protect the Don anyway, because he's already been shot.

Actually, there was a civilian good guy with a gun working at the nearby mortuary. He went to check out the truck crash and saw the kid and his $8000 collection of guns and ammo (which Im sure is clearly within the means of a retired part time burger flipper with a druggie mother) and knew there was trouble. Sadly, he didnt bring his gun with him so he ran back to his office to get it. At that point, he was advised to cease and desist as it was determined that the best way to bring the situation under control was to engage in mass cowardice, so he was ordered to stick his thumb up his ass as about 20 children were shot and killed ........ Now, if he had brought his gun with him and saw two semiauto weapons on the seat next to a psycho kid, do you really think he would have done nothing as the kid grabbed for his weapon, or would the instinct of self preservation have taken over?
