The Lyrics

I'm Gortons the feesherman,
Me feeshsticks are mighty bland.
No tuna I can,
Frozen food's in demand,
No lubber o' land I am.

No women are crewin',
And crew hands get stewin',
Whenever they's time ta spare,
Theys stiffs 'em then stuffs 'em,
And dreams about muffins,
With blow-me-down dolls of air.

I'm Gortons the feesherman,
I skipper this old tin can,
Shore leave's overdue-eesh,
Them jewels 'er like blue feesh
They can't wait to get to land.

Thar be only two things that smell like feesh,
And neither one looks like a man.
Me lures I don'ts caters,
We're all master baiters,
As everything's well in hand.

We catch all the feesh we can,
That feesh smell can stir the gland,
From smellin' them feeshes,
Makes this crew maleeshious,
It's time to set sail for land.

Outstanding, Guy.

There are too many little inferences in here to name just one. :D Good job, Guy...and rather audacious! 5's
Rick D - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
I admire your ability to keep tackling the same subjects and yet find something new in it. I thought I had the last smutty Popeye word, but now you do.
Guy - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Pat, audacity comes with the territory out here I guess. This was a nice compliment.

JD - Your comment was funnier than my parody. I really laughed at it partly because I expected it.

Thanks, Jack and John, Glad you enjoyed it.

And Rick, this was quite a compliment. I hadn't really realized that I was doing this. You'll just have to come up with another Popeye star-tune. Thanks!

"Master baiters", eh? Hey, I wonder if anyone's done a "Friggin' In The Riggin'" parody. Well done Guy.
Suzie Cream Cheese - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Great one! You get a perfect score from me!
Guy - January 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Maybe there's a parody there Claude for a Jethro Tull number. Hmmm, don't get me started. Thanks!

Suzie, thanks for enjoying it.

Claude - in addition to your "Friggin' In The Riggin", how about....

"Swabbin' The Poop-Deck"
"Seamen Pumpin' Out The Bilge"
"He Yearns For The Stern"
"Siegfried & Roy The Cabin Boys"
"On Board The Raging Queen" (stole that one from a very old Saturday Night Live sketch)

JD you did it again. I'm dying in front of this monitor right now. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Guy, I missed this one earlier. I LOL so hard at this one I almost woke the kids!!! "Thar be only two things that smell like feesh, etc." - LMAO! I must admit, though, I will not be eating Gortons fish sticks anymore. I HATE tartar sauce . . .OMG!! I just looked at the ad on the side. NO MORE VAGINAL ODOR!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! I just can't believe that!! btw, congrats on nailing the pacing and the correct structure of this one - a lot of popeye parodies don't. Well done.
Guy - January 31, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Stray! haha - Even Google had to comment on this one. Now I have no doubts about the pace and structure, or if this one stinks or not. LOL!
Adagio - January 31, 2004 - Report this comment
I'm just surprised that Google was able to get the inference about odor..lol.

Yarrr, that was a matey good parody thar, Smee. Thee five awaits ye at the far end of the plank.
Agrimorfee - November 19, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC4) "There are only 2 things that smell like feesh!"--Frank Zappa, on the You Are What You Is album. Pacing booboo verse 1. Good job, though.
Guy - November 19, 2007 - Report this comment
Agri - I must differ with you on your opinion of the pacing booboo in verse 1. I used a lyrics version that was of the early Popeye cartoons that went like this in the first verse:

I'm Popeye the sailor man
I'm Popeye the sailor man
I am what I am
And that's all that I am
i'm popeye the sailor man

The rest fell into place. It differs from the Popeye Movie version that I have pointed to on Youtube. So please re-evaluate. I can remember as a kid we would make up our own lyrics to Popeye. One that I remember quite well is

I'm Popeye the sailor man
I live in a garbage can
I eat all the junk
And I smell like a skunk
I'm Popeye the sailor man

But if you insist on dinging me then by all means you are free to do so. Thanks for hearing me out.

(ABCG) Different most certainly. . .one question though. . .why "Feesherman" instead of "Fisherman" I guess I miss that joke, but no worries. . .I'm sure there's a reason.
Guy - November 23, 2007 - Report this comment
BA Dave - Feesherman would be more like a sailor like Popeye or pirate vernacular.
Below Average Dave (badave.com) - November 23, 2007 - Report this comment
Oooh . .ok, that makes sense--sorry I didn't get it first time around.
bobpiecheese - November 26, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC4G) I don't see a problem with 'Feesherman' - as I don't quite get all the references (nor what they refer to), that was half the fun (no offence). Well done GUy!
Agrimorfee - November 26, 2007 - Report this comment
Hiya Guy...I was going by my memory of the tune which went as:
"I'm Popeye the sailor man, I'm Popeye the sailor man"
"I'm strong to the finich, when I eats me spinach..."
This doesn't change my scoring for the compeition. Thanks for pointing it out, though, Guy.
Matthias - November 27, 2007 - Report this comment
I agree with Agrimorfee on the original song correction... Is there two versions of this song? Oh well... It was still a pretty classic idea, and a good parody.
Kristof Robertson - November 27, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC4-G) I don't know the Gorton's reference, Guy...I might have found the parody even more enjoyable if I had. 555
Pop-guy - November 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Gorton's is a frozen fish product sold in the US. The Gorton's fisherman is a New England commercial fisherman featured on the packaging and TV and other media ads.
stuart mcarthur - November 28, 2007 - Report this comment
heh, this just sounded funny, and that was before all the gags - "Thar be only two things that smell like feesh, And neither one looks like a man" was a clever twist on an old gag (c. "Coming Home" the movie, I think) - funny and wacky Guy - 555
Mikey Squirrel - November 28, 2007 - Report this comment
ABC- Very funny subtle references (master baiter, two things that smell like feesh). Well done, Guy.

Why did the pirate go to the Caribbean?

He wanted some arr and arr.
Peregrin - April 16, 2018 - Report this comment
Hmmm, found this one due to a recent comment by a suspiciously-named character! I had to re-read it a couple of times, but then I was able to get a handle on the subject matter!
