The Lyrics

The ever-chivalrous and erudite Tommy Turtle last week posted a soliloquy about the decision to collaborate, or work solely solo. I thought I'd post a response to his thoughts here.

To sea, or not to sea? Chance: Indigestion
Whether ‘tis better, in the main, to rough up
With swings and weapons of outrageous torture
Or to see charms of “Inner T.” (Read: Turtle)
With no opposing venom? In fives, to sweep--
To score—and what a treat to say we penned
A winner from the thousand pieces of schlock
We foist on AIR—phew. Diss and condemnation
An “out”, for those who wish. But fie! They reek.
They wreak, perchance they steam-- Why? There’s the pub!
For in a pint of ale, what puns may come
When we are buzzed a bit, and sort of cool.
A noble cause, but circumspect.
Mistake? Insanity of such long night
Could Fiddle bear the quips and scornful rhymes?
Professor Tom: unbowed by such contempt?
The slang that arises, lost… unkenned by me.
What value: independence, if my turns
No patience merit; as tho of horrid taste,
When he himself might improve my mistakes
With a shared grokkin’? King of Turtles, rare
Both fun and sweet under his brittle shell.
But what a shredded parody- deep scars;
No undiscovered error. Bravely borne;
Then, “LOL”, returns! Puzzle, he will.
‘Tis easy then to bear the edits made
Nor fly off handle in a fit of huff.
This knowledge doth empower most of all
And thus I am imbued with resolution
And tickled pinkly with the tales passed in thought.
New enterprise of bait/switch and droning--
In this regard my currency is high!
I'm ready now for action. Psyched- and how!
A paro-deal! So, Fiddlegirl and Turtle…
In all, a friend engendered.

Another fine write doth grace my glowing screen on this morn o' nines.

I've been feebly trying to get your permission to post a trib-ody about: you! So what say ye, o Girl of Fiddle? Found a perfect OS and ran with it, will post tomorrow. I promise not to embarrass you, unless unfettered praise annoys you. ;-)

You sure know how to Shake That Speare...very well duplicated

Too good! Yer truly a match for The Turtle... now whether that match was made in heaven or shell remains to be seen ;)

"Frances" Bacon to my Shakespeare... see, everyone always suspected that WS's plays were done by more than one person. Who knew his parodies were?

Waay TMGLTM,, but "pale cast of thought" is always one of the toughest hurdles, so "tales passed in thought" - almost a Spoonerism -- was magnifque! 5 x's, 5 o's, and 5 ... n.m. ;)

You don't need permission to post a genuine tribute to anyone... and unfettered praise *never* annoys anyone ... *trust me* on that!

Nicely written and a good response - yea and verily I say.

Nicely constructed. Laughing at "There's the pub." But TT "fun and sweet under his brittle shell"? You'll destroy his reputation! ;-) And as for you. To thine own self take fives.

To 5 or not to 5.... that is never the question!

The turtle's knowledge sure rubbed off on you, Fiddlegirl! Awesome soliloquizing! Shelling out three sets of 5's for thee!

BJ21: Hark! A trib-ody - for me? And from one of *my* own fave parodists? How awesome! :D

AFW: No one knows spears like AFW! ;) Thanks for v/c

TJC: Very kind praise, from another of my faves! :D

WSS: Put another paro in, in with that Chelonian... ;) xoxo

T1K: Thanks for v/c, as always! :)

OMR: LOL! Thanks, Classy Brassy

Forsby: And why not? He's already destroyed mine... (mwahaha!) :) Thanks for v/c!

DJ: LOL-- Thanks!

CMM: Very kind you are, Lady Christie!

Would you mind if I were to print this out and take it to bed with me tonight? Or would that make you feel sheepish?

LOL @ reply to WSS, but you're worth way more than a nickel! xoxox ;)

Forsooth! Thou doth merit a trib-ody from thee, replete with carnage, mayhem, nakedness and debauchery! (So that's why I wanted permission, cause...ya know, I wanted to be a...ahem, gentleman about it) ;-D
TT - September 09, 2009 - Report this comment
OK, now that work is *mostly* over, and I've had time to do more than the ten-second speed read of the first time through: More faves: "reek/wreak", "no undiscovered error", and the "the fair Ophelia" sub.

I'd never want to give up what you've done to improve my reputation, as per m4b, but there's a pacing glitch :) :) but fear thee not:

"The fault, dear Fiddle, lies not in ourselves, but in the Web".

Just realized that the OS version to which I've always linked -- because it's isolated on its own page, and easy on the eyes -- is an unfaithful transcription vs. a more authentic source. I always patched it from memory without even thinking about it, and so never noticed until now. Check it and you'll see -- and I guess I should try to tell those peeps to fix it. Can't trust anyone's OS lyrics... if you want something done right..... as you well know from last night ;) xoxoxo

Hey, I don't care about the carnage and mayhem, but any nakedness and debauchery stays between me, the Fiddle, and the sheep, 'k? ;D

FG - Oh what sight through MS Windows™ slake? It is at least a jolly lot of fun.

I like this - there is much talent within the fiddling teacher. Shakes alive this is good. Get thee to a fiverie.

I'm think about writing a anti-9/11 truther parody, tired of those idiots but I'm not sure if I should do it.

BJ21: Now *there's* a man who knows how to throw a party!

Guy: Methinks thou hast a bit o' the bard in thy tall Texan self! ;D Thanks for v/c!

Right you are... *again*. [There, I said it. In public, yet! With witnesses!!!]

Make that 4th line, "or to see *the* charms of 'Inner T'..."
TT - September 09, 2009 - Report this comment
No, wrong again -- you were right, there. (Wrong about where being wrong) :)

The OS I've been linking has "enterprise" (sing.), but a college source has "enterprises" (pl) ... of great pith and moment. Since I know it by heart, never really paid attn. If you used such an OS source, the fault is theirs. But it is "enterprises". ...Sheesh, peeps can't even *copy* from a book to their "official lyrics" web sites anymore! Can't trust web lyrics -- gotta dig out the book or pop in the DVD yerself these days (sigh) ...

btw,. also loved "solely solo" in intro.

if you see this, pls ck email re: tomorrow, although seems to be too late.

I *do* know that you worked very hard on it; I'm *extremely* appreciative; and my annoyance was at the fact, only recently discovered, that the source to which I've linked all six (I think) of my Hamlets is in error. *Very* sorry if that came out as any sort of negative on you. ... btw, inaccurate OS web lyrics have been discussed many times in the past. Pop music, OK, but William Shakin' Shakespeare?

I've always linked to
http://www.monologuearchive.com/s/shakespeare_001.html
because it's so easy on the eyes, with just the monologue at the top, and nice, friendly background color. But they're wrong. ... ;-( ... A nice, *plain text* source (that means faster page loading and quicker searching, no junk, no graphics, no ads, no bouncing balls or dancing frogs) for ALL of WS:
http://shakespeare.mit.edu/

You'd not think the Massachusetts Institute of Technology would be the best source for Shakespeare, would you? Oh, those tech geeks are so full of surprises! :D :D :D

What's cool about MIT's site is that you can go to any Act/Scene in the play, or you can click "Entire Play In One Page". That makes for a long page, but it also means that *any keyword can be entered in your "Find" command*, and the whole play will be searched. Then, when you find the quote you want, you can scroll up/down to find out which Act and Scene, so you can go back to the main page of the play, click that A/S, and bookmark it for the quote. Cool!

Hamlet on women's make-up:

"God has given you one face, and you make yourselves another:

No comment. Loved the parody, well and truly! xoxoxo
TTech TTalk - September 12, 2009 - Report this comment
The reason that the MIT site is simple and functional is that it's been up there since 1993, almost from the birth of the Internet, back when the Internet itself was simple and functional. I wish it still were. But they keep "improving" it, alas! Alas! My kingdom for a lass!
