These are lyrics by Bruce Springsteen that we think are kind of nonsensical.

In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American Dream,
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
What do "we" sweat out on the streets of what "runaway American Dream" - that makes no sense at all! What are "suicide machines" and how do you "ride" through mansions of glory at night? It's complete nonsense!

Everybody's got a hungry heart.
Only the stomach can feel hunger. The heart can feel love, lust, and loneliness, but not hunger, Bruce!

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
Every time I hear this line I think Bruce Springsteen wet the bed. Isn't he a little too old to be wetting his sheets? lol

Man, there's an opera out on the turnpike
Why would the Boss stick such a weird lyric in the middle of this very dark song about a gang war? The absurdity of an entire opera in the middle of the Jersey Turnpike would just stop traffic.

Workin' all day in my daddy's garage,
Driving all night chasing some mirage,
Pretty soon, little girl, I'm gonna take charge.
Firstly, this is a beautiful song from a profoundly brilliant album. However, mirages are a phenomenon caused by the sun's reflection from and heating of the Earth's surface. Therefore, generally only psychotics would see them at night. Furthermore, the narrator isn't gonna take charge of anything until he budgets in time for some sleep.
