"Alice's Restaurant"
The Funny Lyrics: And I said, 'Shrink, I want to kill.
I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. ... and the sergeant... said, 'You're our boy' Why They're Funny: This passage was sort of shortened to avoid repetition, but it's still funny.

The Funny Lyrics: I don't want a pickle
Just wanna ride on my motorcycle And I don't want a tickle I'd rather ride on my motorcycle And I don't want to die Just wanna ride on my motorcy... cle Why They're Funny: That little extra syllable at the end. Hey, it's not the best song he ever wrote, but he didn't have time to change it. Listen to the song for the explanation of why.

The Nonsensical Lyrics: All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee. Why They're Nonsensical: Where can a train pull out at Kankakee? Only at Kankakee (DUH!). It can't do so all along any "southbound odyssey"!

The Nonsensical Lyrics: I don't want a pickle
I just want to ride on my motorcycle Why They're Nonsensical: Seems kinda baffling that one would be given the choice between a pickle and a motorcycle. Some crazy options; it's like apples and oranges.

"The Motorcycle Song"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: I don't want a pickle, just wanna ride on my motor-sickle
I don't want a tickle, I'd rather ride on my motor-sickle And I don't wanna die, I just wanna ride on my motorcy ... cle Why They're Misrhymed: This is the greatest stretch for a rhyme I have ever heard - making orange and syringe sound like they rhyme is more believable than turning motorcycle into motor-sickle. And that last line takes the cake. But hey, it's funny.

| "City Of New Orleans"
The Lyrics: Nighttime on the City Of New Orleans,
Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee. Halfway home, and we'll be there by morning, Through the Mississippi darkness, rolling down to the sea. Why: Again refers to the title train, "the City Of New Orleans", which I explained in a previous post. Then refers to the city of Memphis, Tennessee. From Memphis southward, most of the train's route is lengthwise through the state of Mississippi. So the Mississippi reference is probably mainly to that. But since a good part of the route is close to the river of the same name, the author could well have had the Mississippi River and its valley in mind as well.
