Misheard Lyrics: There was Blue's Clues and Barney
Original Lyrics: There was U2 and Blondie
|
Story about this misheard lyric by: Cody Finke Since YouTube didn't exist when the song was made, I made a homage to Blue's Clues and Barney instead, even though there was neither such thing in 1985. |

The Funny Lyrics: There was U2, and Blondie, and music still on MTV
Why They're Funny: I find it funny that BFS chooses to symbolize the year 1985 with the bands U2 and Blondie. By '85, Blondie wasn't charting any more hits, as that band had already gone their separate ways (until reuniting in the late 90's for the single "Maria", but that's another matter), and U2 was just getting started. Of course, U2 *was* active on the music scene, but other bands/artists were successful as well (and they still were in 2004, when this song was written). As for MTV, sure, it was televising music, which is good, but the channel had been launched only four years beforehand. It wasn't until the 90's when it began to have less and less musical content.

The Nonsensical Lyrics: I almost left home to move to L.A.
Where I was almost famous for almost a day Why They're Nonsensical: If he 'almost' moved to L.A., that implies he never actually did. So how could have been 'almost famous' once he got there???

The Nonsensical Lyrics: Bring back Springsteen, Madonna, (way before Nirvana)
U2, and Blondie Why They're Nonsensical: It's curious that Bowling for Soup chose to characterize 1985 by these bands...considering they are all still around. With the exception of Blondie, whose 2002 album flopped, the others all hit number one with their last lp releases, all of them in this decade. How can you bring back bands that never left?
