"Red Rubber Ball"
The Lyrics: The roller-coaster ride we took
Is nearly at an end. I bought my ticket with my tears. That's all I'm gonna spend. Why: This song has a rousing melody that creates a carnival-like atmosphere. If you first started paying attention to the lyrics at the reference to a roller-coaster, you might think it a happy love song, kind of like "Palisades Park", set at a carnival or amusement park. I find the tune even more upbeat than that of "Palisades Park", for that matter. But if you continue to listen, you quickly find this is a song of a love that went totally sour. In fact, if you listen to the lyrics throughout, it becomes clear that the song is throughout about such a dismally failed love.
