"Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose"
The Lyrics: Oh, I got wind my Jo's been dancing here in New Orleans In this smoke-filled honky-tonk they call the land of dreams Oh, here she comes a strutting in her birthday clothes Say, has anybody seen my sweet Gypsy Rose
Why: Tony Orlando & Dawn's 1973 #3 hit, "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" was the group's follow-up to the #1 smash, "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Ole Oak Tree" and just like that song, "Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose" harked back to a simpler time in music that many people wanted to go back to. It's a bluesy dance #, and it is loosely based on the story of Gypsy Rose, just like the Broadway and movie musical. But in this version, Tony Orlando plays the man whose one-time sweet 'Mary Jo' has gone down, as the third verse says, to New Orleans (a real place) to be a stripper, with "rings on her fingers and bells on her toes", at a smoke-filled honky-tonk joint.

"Knock Three Times"
The Lyrics: Oh my sweetness
(Knock, knock, knock) means you'll meet me in the morning Twice on the pipe (click, click) means you ain't gonna show. Why: The barely audible sound of knocking on wood is heard three times, while two taps on a plumbing pipe with a tool (likely a wrench) is heard twice.

| "Knock Three Times"
The Lyrics: Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Why: The word "knock," which is followed later by a knocking sound, is onomatopoeic.
