Misheard Lyrics: I can't see me lovin' somebody
But you were on my mind. Original Lyrics: I can't see me lovin' nobody
But you for all my life. |
Story about this misheard lyric by: Dj Milek After bursting into song with a group of fellow travelers (fortunately not heard above them), I thought this song would be better if it were more positive. So I looked up the lyrics. How many decades later to discover what a lovely declaration of love it is (rather than love the one you're with)??? |

The Funny Lyrics: Me and you and you and me
no matter how they toss the dice it has to be. Why They're Funny: What??? Toss the dice??? How does tossing dice and love fit together? Actually, it means the same as 'Let the chips fall where they may'. It's funny because people think it's another funny lyric by Kaylan and Volman, but all they were doing this time is quoting an old saying about letting fate take its course.

The Nonsensical Lyrics: And how is the weather?
Why They're Nonsensical: This is a sugary love song, and a question about the weather suddenly pops up out of nowhere. There's a very fine line between funny and just plain dumb. Is that supposed to be a lame attempt at making a rhyme with the title? If so, nice try.

The Nonsensical Lyrics: No matter how they toss the dice,
It had to be The only one for me is you, and you for me Why They're Nonsensical: Those last two lines describe the same thing. Even though the order of 'you' and 'me' is reversed, the object of the preposition 'for' is still 'me'. This blatant misuse of the English language is infuriating.

The Insincere Lyrics: I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life Why They're Insincere: That's what every guy says to his girlfriend at some point or another. Granted, there ARE a few who truly mean it, but the majority are either: A) caught up in an emotional moment, or B) just trying to get their girl into bed.

The Insincere Lyrics: Elenore, gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well You're my pride and joy, et cetera Why They're Insincere: It's the 'et cetera' that really gets me

The Inappropriate Lyrics: The only one for me is you
and you for me Why They're Inappropriate: These two lines are completely redundant. In both lines, he's saying that the girl is the only one for him. Take another look at the two lines and you'll see, even though the order is changed, it means the exact same thing!
We can only conclude that he was just never really right for the girl... or else he would have said so. Submitted by: Scott

The Inappropriate Lyrics: So happy together
How is the weather? Why They're Inappropriate: What does the weather have anything to do with being happy together? Seems like the songwriter was just looking for a rhyme, not seeming to care whether it was a non-sequitur!

The Dated Lyrics: I could call you up, invest a dime
Why They're Dated: Pay phone calls haven't been 10 cents in quite a while.

"Elenore"
Opening Lines: You got a thing about you I just can't live without you I really want you, Elenore, near me.
Comments: "Elenore" is a 1969 top ten hit for the Turtles.
