"Peace Train"
Misheard Lyrics: High on the B string
Original Lyrics: Glide on the peace train
|
Story about this misheard lyric by: DOODAH I was always hearing "High on the B string". In fact, although I have tried various things in the past, when I typed high on the B string in YouTube a few minutes ago, that's the first time in my life I knew what the song and performer was. |

"Wild World"
The Funny Lyrics: I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear.
Why They're Funny: OK the song is about cautioning a woman who wants to leave her lover and it seems like they've been in a long time relationship about the evils of the world and how it's not such a friendly and warm place and hoping that she'll be fine but then the guy sounds concerned that she won't be. It's a sad and serious song. And then he wishes her a lot of nice things to wear? If that's not funny and doesn't make you laugh then I don't know what to tell you. Within the context of the rest of the song I think it's kind of silly. :D

"Mona Bone Jakon"
The Dirty Lyrics: Yes, I've got a mona bone jakon But it won't be lonely for long
Why They're Dirty: To quote Stevens himself: "'Mona Bone Jakon' is another name for my penis. It's the name I give it. It's not some sort of secret vocabulary; it's just something I made up."

"I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun"
The Lyrics: I've been demoralized too many times But now I realize, Ah ah, no more. I'm gonna get me a gun I'm gonna get me a gun And all those people who put me down You better get ready to run, Cuz I'm gonna get me a gun
Why: Not a song you'd want to play in a Post Office. I wonder if this would get past the censorship people today?

"Rubylove"
The Lyrics: Original Greek Ρούμπι γλυκιά
Έλα ξανά, έλα ξανά κοντά μου Έλα πρωί, με την αυγή εσύ ήσουν σαν ήλιου ακτίδα Ρούμπι μου μικρή Transliteration Ruby glykia Ela xana, ela xana konta mou ela pro-ee, me tin av-ghee esy isoun san illy-ou aktida Ruby mou mikri Sweet Ruby Come back, come back to me Come in the morning, with the dawn you are like the sun shine My little Ruby Why: Rubylove has a greek verse, and is in 7/8 time (which is typical of many traditional greek dances). | "O Caritas"
The Lyrics: Tristetat(e) et lacrimis
Gravis est dolor De terraeque maribus Magnus est clamor O caritas, O caritas Nobis semper sit amor Mos perituri mortem salutamus Sola resurgit vita Why: With it's Flamenco rythmn, "O Caritas" sounds at first as if it is being sung in a modern Romance language. It is in fact Latin. The song extolls the virtues of spiritual (as opposed to romantic) love.
The Latin text translates as: I don't want to lose the harmony of the universe I see all things... burning, I hear men... shouting. Now is the light of the world and the stars going out Now does the blame for the disaster fall upon men. Grief is heavy with sadness and tears Great is the noise from the earth and the seas O love, O love be with us always. We who will perish salute death. Life alone goes on. "Wild World"
The Lyrics: Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin' Baby, I'm grievin' But if you wanna leave, take good care I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there Why: This song's fairly upbeat and catchy. However, it's about a woman leaving a man (who then practically pushes her out the door and half-begs her to stay at the same time).
