Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I'm coming up!
I'm coming out!
The Story: I believe I heard it as 'Coming up' because Paul McCartney had a hit with that title the same year. When I found out the correct title, I thought, 'No wonder this became a gay pride song!' Come to think of it, 'I'm coming up' suggests that Diana is about to puke. - Submitted by: John
I've fallen...OW!
I'm coming...OUT!
The Story: At the end of that song she said it with such authority and yelling out the word "out", I thought she was hurt! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Let us know, let us know, let us know.

If there's a rambling
I will vomit

If there's a remedy
I'll run from it
From it
The Story: I thought to myself that Diana Ross would vomit from a rambling. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
I want pretzels
All over his body.
I want muscles
All over his body.
The Story: My mom was in the kitchen cooking and singing along with the radio. When she got to the chorus, I busted up laughing. 'Pretzels, Mom?' I asked her. 'That makes no sense.' She replied, 'None of today's music makes sense to me. ' - Submitted by: Jamez Smith

I'm hiding like a spider in the dark
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
The Story: I think the first time I became familiar with this song, I was going through a period of hearing difficulties. And I'm sorry to say, it just sounded like she said, "I'm hiding like a spider in the dark" I guess I knew that wasn't what she really said but I couldn't get that thought out of my head. Sorry Diana Ross. beautiful song otherwise. - Submitted by: Steven Vandevoorde
