Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I don't know what's worth fighting for
Or why it is I'm Greek
I don't know what's worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
The Story: My daughter is really into Linkin Park, so I thought I'd give them a try. I had listened to the song when it came out, though didn't pay much attention. Imagine my confusion when I listened properly, as I thought I had, and heard them going on about being Greek. I wondered what that had to do with the rest of the song. - Submitted by: Dawn B

I can't sing the way I did before
I can't feel the way I did before
The Story: Perhaps I wanted to hear these lyrics based on the way the vocals are almost screamed in this section of the song. I was listening to the song with muffled audio on an FM station with bad reception. - Submitted by: Ryan Miller
You become a polar bear.
You've become a part of me.
The Story: I keep listening to this part of the song, to try to catch the lyrics. I thought it was kind of cute that Linkin Park sings about a polar bear. When I asked my husband to listen to it, he also couldn't quite catch it and agree with me that it was 'polar bear'. - Submitted by: epidote
In the memory of Bambi
A** burning up
The duck is holding me tightly
Until the scum rises up.
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
The Story: Even though my sister had the lyrics for the song, this is just how it sounded to us on the CD. Now whenever we sing it, we use our 'version' instead and crack up laughing. - Submitted by: Scarlet
In the memory of family
As I'm burning them
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The Story: The first few times I listened to this song, this is what I thought I heard. I thought that the "memory of family" part could make sense, but "As I'm burning them" was... odd... I came to the conclusion that he was singing about being forgotten or disowned by his family or close friends and was either burning things which reminds him of them, or mentally "burning" them from his mind/ to forget them. However, I still thought this was odd, so In The End (pun intended), I decided to look them up and then I found the real words and thought "Ah. Well that makes more sense." - Submitted by: Laurence Knott

One miniature rock star
One minute you're on top.
The Story: I was showing my best friend Meteora and she was asking me if she could hear the miniature rock star song. I was like, wtf? When 'Hit The Floor' came on, she started saying 'miniature rock star'. Then I realized what she was on about. When I posted this in a magazine, the editor said that a lot of journalists heard it that way, too. - Submitted by: Gabz_LP

Thinking you're hot stuff!
One minute you're on top
Now you're not, watch it drop
Thinking your hot stuff.
The Story: I was with my BFF and was trying to sing karaoke to this song as she whispered the lyrics into my ear. When she said "We're miniature rock stars!" I fell over laughing and couldn't complete the song. - Submitted by: Ellie

I tried so hard and got so far.
But in the end, it doesn't really matter.
I had to fall to lose it all.
But in the end, it doesn't really matter.
I put my time in you.
I tried so hard and got so far.
But in the end, it doesn't even matter.
I had to fall to lose it all.
But in the end, it doesn't even matter.
I put my trust in you.
The Story: I play this song many times for remembering Chester Bennington and his band. One of my favorite bands that I love and this song now I'm saving into my playlist. About this song: Formed in 1996 as Xero, this band released their debut studio album, "Hybrid Theory". It was released on 24 October 2000. The first single from that album, "One Step Closer", reaching #75 on Billboard's Pop Chart and #24 on the UK Singles Chart. The second single, "Crawling", reaching #79 Billboard's Pop Chart and #16 on the UK Singles Chart. Unfortunately, the third single, "Papercut", failed to entering Billboard's Pop Chart but reaching #14 on the UK Singles Chart. Later, their fortunate was giving to the fourth single, "In the End". And finally, entering them into one-hit wonder fame after the album, "Hybrid Theory", charting very well and also making "In the End" the highest position on Billboard's Pop Chart where it reaching #2. "In the End" was also reaching #8 on the UK Singles Chart. With reaching #2 on Billboard's Pop Albums Chart and #4 on the UK Albums Chart at that time in the beginning of the 2000s, "Hybrid Theory" has sold 30 million copies worldwide. So, congrats for Mike Shinoda, Chester Bennington, and friends, for their success of their singles (including "In the End" as my favorite song from them) and their debut studio album, "Hybrid Theory". Thanks. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji

I've become my mom
And I hate you, Dad.
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there.
The Story: My sister, poor thing, thought they were singing this. She realized her mistake when our brother gave her a crazy look and told her the right lyrics whenever they were listening to music. Needless to say, she felt silly! lol - Submitted by: Rayna
I've become so young.
I've become so numb.
The Story: I was talking to my friend. This song track came on on the cd, and we were listening to it. I told her, 'OMG. I love this song, but why is it called "Numb"?' Sort of an inside joke; call it a trickism if you meet anyone with the same problem. - Submitted by: Keeba Kuba

Blew Up Jerry D, this is a f***ing mess to see.
Reverse psychology, is failing miserably.
The Story: I had on this cd, and for some reason, my mom came in. She stood there and listened for a moment, then turned to my with a horrified look. She asked, 'Why are they talking about blowing Jerry? That isn't funny!' Needless to say, she was pretty amused when I showed her the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Amy Perry
