Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I been down Harlem Street; been down Harlem Street
Argh no Christmas today; nooo Christmas today
I been downhearted baby
I been down, I been downhearted baby
Ever since the day we met
Ever since the day we met.
The Story: Thought this was a Christmas song and tried to look it up so I googled the words. Glad someone else “misunder-heard” the same verse I did. - Submitted by: Holly Golightly

The Story: These are actually my lil brother's misheard lyrics and we've been picking on him ever since. Now that I listen to the song, I can't help but hear his misheard lyrics. - Submitted by: DaChozn
I bend down hard in bed
I bend down
I bend down hard in bed
I've been downhearted baby
I've been down
I've been downhearted baby.
The Story: I only remembered this line from when I heard the song play on TV 10 years ago. Today I started humming the 'do-doo-do's' on the miserable bus ride home from school, not knowing from what, with only this line coming to mind. The first thing I did when I got home was search for the lyrics 'I bend down hard' and it came up with this page on commonly misheard lyrics. My brother came in and said he always thought it was 'I bend down hard in pain.' Other than that, we could only recall a train and a phonebooth, but then we were only 7 at the time. - Submitted by: Mikel

Have sex today with me,

The Story: When I was in middleschool when this song came out, I thought it was about Christmas, as I got older I thought it was about sex until I came across this site today. - Submitted by: the nomester
