Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Story: With some of the other lyrics in this song, it makes sense, doesn't it? It wasn't until just recently I learned this song wasn't as dirty as I'd originally thought--or maybe it is and I was right all along? It certainly seems plausible! - Submitted by: Random Fred

Hell On Wheels
Helen, Helen, Helen
Helen Wheels
The Story: I was in elementary school from 1971-1977. During especially the early part of those I've known this guy with a kids-size cammy Army jacket, and it had a patch with a tank pictured on it. The caption said "Hell On Wheels". Funny thing, I don't recall any teachers complaining about that "H" word being worn, even if the Vietnam War was happening. - Submitted by: Scotty Saigon

Live and let die.
The Story: Actually, when I was young, and my heart was an open..wait, i'm getting sucked into the song. But, as a kid; I had a friend that was very insistent that the song was saying 'Liver-man died', though he could never explain who or what a liver-man was. "Mull of Kintyre"
Mullet of time
Oh fish rising up from the sea my desire is always to be here
Oh Mullet of time
Mull of Kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea my desire is always to be here
Oh mull of Kintyre
The Story: I misheard this when I was asleep and my clock radio went off and this song played. The song wound up in the dream I was having. I was watching a TV show about a magical fish who could float through the air and would take a group of school friends on adventures using his amazing time travel powers. I only got to watch the opening credits as after the song played I woke up. Too bad, it could have been a great show. - Submitted by: Bukster
