The Lyrics

Another hopeful addition to Robert Lund's forthcoming Christmas CD. Avril Lavigne is an obscure foreign performer (from somewhere called Canada) and I realize that few people have heard of her, let alone considered parodying her material. But I thought I'd take a chance with this because I think she deserves some exposure.
Uh huh - I've seen those
Uh huh - uh huh - Fiber-optic trees
It spins and glows
Uh huh - uh huh - We got four of these

Slow down - what we shoppin' for?
This town's - got too many stores
And if - we hit one more TJ Maxx
I'll collapse!

Let's go - home and watch the game
Before - I go more insane
We'll park - round the crèche and play with fate
To navigate

The trains on the floor
The wreaths on the door
The icicle strands
The nutcracker bands
Reindeer on the lawn
The fear of the monstrous tree

TELL ME

Don't you think the house is just a bit too decorated?
We just plug in the
Lights and every circuit in the state's obliterated
Every year we
Got the noise
From the toys
Garland chains
Candy canes
Santa's sleigh
And the spray-on snow
Compared to us the Rockefeller Center is understated
Ho ho ho

At night - man our yard's a trip
More lights - than the Vegas strip
We're the - only residential place
Seen from space

Neighbors - claim they're going blind
We should - hang some warning signs
It's a - shame when friends misplace their young
Here among

The trains on the floor
The angels galore
The star chandeliers
The china from Sears
The gingerbread boys
The voice from the talking tree:

FLOCK ME!

Why'd you have to go and buy all these decorations?
All this e-lec-
-tricity would light a couple Eastern European nations
Every year we
Got the stress
Of the guests
Hanging socks
And the box-
-es and bows
Heaven knows that we are
Livin' in a house like Chevy Chase's in the third Vacation
Ho ho -

Don't you think the house is just a bit too decorated? (yeah yeah)
The children found your
Eggnog now they're sledding off the roof intoxicated
Every year you
Deck the halls
And the malls
Overspend
On the red
And the green
When it's cleanup time you'll
Find me at the beach on Christmas Island where I've relocated

Ho ho ho

This is great

I have a theory. There are so many shitty parodies of this song, people rated this according to those. I don't know how else to explain fours for pacing. I can't believe this is actually pissing me off. Okay, they can go flock themselves. This is perfect. Great job as always.

I agree with Claude, I think people's first reaction is "Oh no, another Avril-complicated parody" before even reading it, since there have been so many. That said, this is well done, and will be a great addition to your Christmas album.

It's quite a fun song to parody, this one: just a real shame there's so many bad ones out there... this one ain't though. Great premise, well executed.

Finally a decent parody of Avril. Great start, just the placing out at the end. Still very funny.

I'm no fan of this over played tune of Aviril's. But because of it's familiarity, It could pan- out commercialy for you Spaff. Well written and catchy. I think it will be a hit.

Great job...it seems to be voted well now.....

Laura: Thanx.
C4P: I'm glad you're there to get pissed for me and save me the hassle.
Regos: Sorry about placing out. I think.
Wild: Commercial success sounds tasty, but the Xmas CD will probably only sell about three copies, and that's if you and Diva each buy one.
Jeff & Philbo: If the low scores on this are because this song's been overparodied, my immediate future ain't bright. For #25 - my entry into amiright's oh-so-prestigious "top submitters club" - I'm doing what's been called an amiright-of-passage: Bohemian Rhapsody. (Groan.)

Hahaha, good one Spaff...brilliance as usual... A foreign country called Canada. Sadly enough, Canada actually is a foreign country to Americans! I remember someone telling me that her brothers were talking to a couple of American guys, and the Americans were asking (seriously) "Do you have CDs up there?" -.- Funnier still, her brothers were playing dumb and being like "CDs?...What're CDs?" Hahahaha...poor uninformed ignorant Americans. No, USA, we polar rednecks don't have CDs or any of that newfangled technology! That's how we have too many Canadian bands and artists to count, and how I'm using the Internet! Flawless logic.

Belated thanx, mOnKeY! I'm glad to hear that CD technology has finally arrived in your third-world country. (I live with a Canadian so I'm entitled to make jokes like that.) And speaking of CDs, I have one to recommend...

After "resolutions" this is probably my favorite song on your CD. It can´t be overdecorated with 5s as far as I can see.

Excellent recording, and TMGLTM. Another great track from EGW. Loved the intro comment as well, though there probably was not 93 gazillion parodies of this song at that time (most all were "Sk8r Boi"s, AmiRight?),
Spaff.com - January 06, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanx again, Red, for picking up the CD. If I remember right, there was actually a time when "Complicated" parodies vastly outnumbered "Sk8er Boi"s. Ah, to be young and in love again.
