The Lyrics

for Ages of Amiright 2, Round 6
All the pretty horses, all the pretty horses,
All the pretty horses, all the pretty horses,
All the pretty horses, all the pretty horses,
All the pretty horses!
Now put a leg up!

Bright summer day, I want to play
Amusement parks thrill me so well!
The coaster, it dips! The tilt-a-whirl, it tips!
Hey, I’m gonna ride the carousel!
I’m up on it! I’ll throw a fit
If they don’t get this thing going!
C’lliope plays! We fly away!
Hey, you, you can’t catch me!

And when I ride it, then I want to grab a ring from it!
When I ride it, then I want to grab a ring from it!
Grab a ring, get another fling on it!
When I ride it, then I want to grab a ring from it!

Up and down, round and round! Up and down, round and round!
Up and down, round and round! Up and down, round and round!

And I’m stretching now to try to grab a ring from it!
Yeah, I’m stretching now to try to grab a ring from it!
Carousel’s Julie Jordan sings on it!
Oops! I missed it, and I couldn’t grab a ring from it!

I got sweat on my lips. The horse ‘tween my hips,
He is shaking out his mane in delight!
Alan Strang—that’s my new name!—
Sneaks Equus out in the night!
I’m not being factual; I’m not actual;
I’m Velvet Brown in the National!
I’m a horsey girl! I’m champion of the world!
You boy jockeys got nothing on me!

Oh, here’s the golden ring! I wanna grab that ring from it!
Here’s the golden ring! I wanna grab that ring from it!
Here’s the ring…oops! And ow! That stings! Oh, ****!
Dag, I banged my hand! I couldn’t grab the ring! Oh, ****!

Up and down, round and round! Up and down, round and round!
Up and down, round and round! Up and down, round and round!

No, it’s slowing down, and I don’t have a ring from it!
Dag, it’s slowing down, and I don’t have a ring on it!
Search my purse for some change I could bring from it!
Shoot, it stopping! I don’t have the golden “bling” for it!

“Please step down! Merry go round! Step down! Merry go round!
Please step down! Merry go round! Step down! Merry go round!”

Don’t make me go back out in the world—
A horsey kind of girl!
Let’s see, I have quarters here, six pennies there…

Here’s a dime; that makes me…it’ll take me…
Need two-fifty, see, to be riding me to infinity and beyond…
Put me back on the horse!
Wait! Here’s a nickel…groan!
That’s one-sixteen… Can you loan?
Oh, yeah, I know…yeah, I’m gone...

All the pretty horses! All the pretty horses!
All the pretty horses! All the pretty horses!
All the pretty horses! All the pretty horses!
All the pretty horses!
Can’t put my leg up!

No, no, no! I can’t go! No, no, no! I can’t go!
No, no, no! I can’t go! No, no, no! I can’t go!

Because I tried it, but I couldn’t grab a ring from it!
Yeah, I tried, but I just couldn’t grab a ring from it!
In the film, Mary Poppins springs from it!
I can’t ride again; I couldn’t grab a ring from it!
(No, no, no!)

Well, tomorrow, I could try and grab a ring from it!
Well, tomorrow, I could try and grab a ring from it!
ATM cash to do my thing with it!
And tomorrow is the day I’ll grab a ring from it!

Up and down!

Come to Burbank and ride some real horses - and grab avocados.

I've ridden carousels many times in my life and I don't remember them having anything to do with rings... All I remember is sitting on the wooden horse going around and around in circles while some goofy circus music plays, but nothing to do with rings (Unless I'm riding this ride the right way, There's a game that also goes along with this ride?) Good choice of OS it's nice to see you doing current music because a lot of the music that you like to do it's 60s and 70s.

AGES...Well...the imagery of the parody made me think of King Arthur's Carousel at Disneyland...and since Disneyland is my very favorite place on the planet...the whole thing, of course, made me smile. I'm with Matty, a little bit, though, in that I am lost on the "ring" reference...??? Not sure what that's about...but this was nice and made me think of sunshine and lots of colors. =)

I had a feeling some of you younger people might not know anything about the carousel ring. Although I call it a "golden ring" in the parody, it was really a brass ring. Truthfully, I've only seen a couple of "brass ring" carousels myself in my lifetime. If you can grab the brass ring off the carousel's ring dispenser, you get a free ride. (Ages2) This parody causes conflicts within me: I had no clue what the 'ring' business was about, proving my youth; but I've never heard the OS despite it being from the 00's, proving...my inner not-youth? Whatever. Interesting parody, Mel.

(Ages) Well your explanation to Arwen and Matthias kinda answers my question. I found this parody cute, TOS on the other hand. . .well I'll be blunt--what was Beyonce thikin. . .anyhow,

(Ages) Wasn't familiar with the Carousel ring either, although I'll take it as a compliment if that makes me a younger people :) Interesting parody on a song that drives me nuts :) More an interesting song than an lol funny song.

Ok Mel, I know exactly what a "brass ring carousel" is. As a matter of fact, isn't it a pretty common idiom "grabbing for the brass ring" ?I also liked your imagery as well as the "Alan Strang/Equus reference. Did you happen to see the recent production of this in NYC (Harry Potter gets naked)?
Melanie Lee - September 18, 2009 - Report this comment
Yes, in fact I did see Equus on Broadway. (My brother lent me the money, and I haven't paid him back yet!) I thought Daniel Radcliffe did a superb job. I've been wanting to see this play for decades, and now I've finally seen it! I wanted to get DR's autograph after the show for my niece, an avid HP fan, but too many people were in front of me!
