This is great. I'm a big fan of the movies, and you summed them all up. I have seriously thought about writing a novel from Doc's point of view to fill in all the gaps in his life. How long was he gone from when he leaves Marty the first time and comes back? And how old was he by the end?
You know...no one even knows. It's all up to how old you believe he is...if he's in his 40's in 1955, he'd be in his mid 70's in 1985. and no telling how long he was in the future for...years, months...
I made a list once of some of the things he had to do in the future. He had his car converted and himself rejuvenated. He acquired money from all different times, meaning he had need for it. He was well informed about future customs. You don't just get out of your Delorean and have that stuff handed to you. He had to spend time there and get established. Even if he was in his mid seventies in the old west, he married Clara and had two boys that looked seven to nine years old at the end. That must be why he made the steam train. Needed to get some of that futuristic Viagra.
DKTOS but I´m picking up on this via the comments page. I love these movies too but if you´re looking for time-alteration "errors" how about this one: In the second movie Biff owns everything and have screwed up the entire country, yet sport results have NOT changed, there is still the same winners as in the now-there 30 year old book.

K1chyd---I have read almost all of Heinlein, and I'm not familiar with that title. I have read "All You Zombies" and "The Door Into Summer" which deal with time travel. There is a Star Trek episode with that title, but it's not about time. As for Biff's sports betting, that is not a goof. When he was young and made his fortune gambling, the book was accurate. Only later, after he was rich, would the facts diverge. And if you take into account that photographs change with new events in the BTTF world, then maybe even then the sports stats would change with Biff's world. there are always paradoxes in time travel (As in a Pair o' Docs, heh heh) Here's one for you. When the Delorean lost all the gasoline in part III, why didn't Doc just ride over to the cave where he hid it for Marty only a few months earlier? If he drained the tank beforehand, he would surly have saved the gas for an emergency, or mentioned it to Marty why it was gone.
Rick: I´ve been Googling a bit and have come to the conclusion that "Mirror, mirror" must be my own translation/assumtion based on the given Swedish title "Spegel, Spegel" for "All you zombies", cos this story fits the story I remember:
