The Lyrics

A tailor contemplates his heavy workload. My recording of this parody is at the address below or, from the Amiright.com home page. Please listen:Site name
When you try your vest
But you've grown obese
When your buttons are gone
They pop when you breathe
When you feel so wide
That you can weep
Such is your curse

When you tear some seams
In gowns of lace
When, at noon luncheons
You want three plates
When you'd love some rum
But it grows your waist
Should skip desserts

I'm a guy who's sewn
Pants too tight, you moan
But I will try to fit you

Oh, pie a-la-mode
And jelly roll
When it's food you love
You're gonna grow
When, off to exercise
You never go
Bust out your skirts

Life's swill fried your form
From big bites of scones
But I will try to fit you

(Soo-wee, soo-wee, soo-wee)

Tear seams "round your waist
Man, you grew some chins
You cannot feel great
Ice cream found your waist
Oh, my

You've cleaned all your plates
At barbecues, you still yearn for the big steaks
You've cleaned all your plates
Oh, why

Twice your size you've grown
Appetite? Hormones?
But I will try to fit you

Well, I guess there's a lot of DKTOS on this one, eh? If you click the link above, where it says "Site Name" it will bring you to the recording that took me the better part of 3 weeks to make. Please go there, listen and vote. Sheesh, maybe I should stick to the oldies.

I know TOS and this is great (already commented in depth under the recording). 555

Thanks, Jack.

Very weighty and inspirational..
Tommy Turtle - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
DKTOS either, and will try to listen to mp3 later, but 5s for funny lyrics, and especially for word order manipulation.
Rick C - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks, AFW and TT. Tommy, this is one of those parodies I write to try to rhyme the OS, as close to word for word, as possible. It would be funnier if you knew the OS lyrics. Thanks for stopping by.

LOLOL! This is wonderful! Since I already blathered on about your songs, you know that I think it's great. Tell me...did you ever get the Louis Armstrong parody on here? 5's plus++
Rick C - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks, Pat. Yes, the Louis Armstrong parody was the first one I submitted to Amiright. That was on March 25 of last year. I'm coming up on an anniversary. How time flies. Anyway, it's here: http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/louisarmstrong14.shtml

Still trying to figure out how to get the sound file to download...

BTW Rick, were you aware that you and "Schuss, Bang!" were cited in (PLUG!) "John A. Barry (and others): Vol. II of Turtle Trilogy" by (ahem) moi? 3w.amiright.com/parody/60s/shelleyfabares2.shtml
jango - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
This fits perfectly with the original song, my kitty and I just sung it together! Purrr!
Rick C - March 14, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks, Jango. Tommy, when you get to my Soundclick page, if you click on the MP3 button, it will open a window which will ask whether you want to open or save the file to your computer. If you click "Save" it will download it. You can listen without downloading by clicking the hi fi or lo fi buttons. Clicking those opens up a player window from which you can also view the lyrics while the song plays. I'm gonna go check your PLUG now. I'll comment on it.

This parody is hilarious! I can't stop laughing HARD every time I read it, tho I don't know who Rick is, mate, you're a genius!! ^__^

(SOTM) I draw blanks when it comes to Coldplay, but this parody was hilarious! It's not every day you see a parody on here about a tailor (or even Hannibal or Denny's for that matter). You just never know what's gonna show up on Amiright, unless you wrote it yourself. And I loved the cleverness of the lyrics, there is one line for which I can guess the original lyrics: I think "You still yearn for your big steaks" easily becomes "You still learn from your mistakes." But I DKTOS, but it doesn't matter. 555

Thanks, Chris. If you go back to the message board, where the March entries are, there is a link to the original lyric on my entry. You were dead on with the one line you guessed at though.
Cat - April 08, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Hah! Looks like we got two parodies about weight problems in this month's SOTM. And I really appreciate this since I rather strongly dislike Coldplay!
Rex - April 09, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Well, this is tailor-made for the SOTM! Enjoyed!
Agrimorfee - April 10, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Not a DKTOS at all, Rick, "X&Y" was one of my favorite albums last year (and of course, I wrote an answer to Fix You entitled "Gesundheit"-- www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/coldplay45.shtml. )Enjoyed yours as well.
Rick C - April 10, 2006 - Report this comment
Thank you Cat, Rex and Agri. Yes, I remember your version of this, Agri. I think I was the first to comment on it. One of my favorites last year too.

Excellent. I'm a bit biased because you have a seriously quality recording of your work, but excellent across the board. The parody fits the original, so to speak.

(SOTM) There's nothing like a parody about fat people to liven up one's day. Well, my day at least. Good one, Rick.
Red Ant - April 23, 2006 - Report this comment
(SOTM) This parody is unique in that it is the first one I heard a recording of prior to reading the lyrics. The pacing is absolutely flawless, your singing was spot on. I also noticed the word-for-word rhyming throughout the parody. If I can guess as to why this got 2 pacing dings despite being perfectly paced, I'd say not typing out the carried syllables in the chorus is the reason. That doesn't detract at all from the parody though, which is very funny, and this goes immediately to my short list.
Rick C - April 25, 2006 - Report this comment
Thank you Max, Adagio, 2nz, Peter, Scathe, bobpiecheese and Red Ant. Jack, I picked up the pacing dings during the SOTM round. As you know, I provided the OS lyrics, as well as a recording for comparison of the parody to the OS. There are no pacing errors. If there were, I wouldn't have submitted it in the SOTM round. The only reason for the dings is either ignorance or spite. I noticed them last week but, held my tongue, though it ticked me off. Thanks for pointing it out though.

(sotm) wow, nice job of replicating Chris Martin's vocal style, Rick - and when the backing vocals came in, I was more than impressed - excellent all round (pun unintended)

SOTM: Ah, the Jelly roll, rolling into the competition. Good job!
Phil Alexander - April 30, 2006 - Report this comment
Is this the sort of chap who uses a roll-on roll-off ferry to travel? You could always do a Beach Boys "Get around" parody as a sequel (though thinking about it, that idea's probably already been done)
Confission - April 30, 2006 - Report this comment
(sotm) nicely tailored parody

SOTM--hehehe...lots of fun images here, Rick...although, I think it's widely known around the overweight community that lace gowns are just a no go. Or, it should be. ; )

(SOTM) I notice 1-2 themes each month in SOTM ... last month it was Cheney and ... well, Cheney. And this month it was Torino and fat. I have yet to see whether the ever-present poo was represented this month.
