Song Parodies -> "Anti-American"

Original Song Title:

"American Idiot"

Original Performer:

Green Day

Parody Song Title:

"Anti-American"

Parody Written by:

Robert Christenson

The Lyrics

In the fascinating world of politics I choose to defend what's right no matter what party I have to side with. And even if the current president of any country isn't doing his job "correctly," he should still be respected for putting his reputation on the line as a human-being. "Green Day" chooses not to respect even their own country; let alone their president. But opinions are opinions. Everyone in America is allowed to have and express them, so here's mine.
Don't wanna be an anti-American.
Especially when you're a f*cking citizen.
You love your country they will love you as well.
Otherwise they'll put you through a living hell.

Welcome to the nation of freedom.
And they think it's all here to please 'em.
Everything wasn't meant to go their way.
Don't they know our love can't be borrowed.
I just hate to sound so sorrowful.
Now they have yet to argue.

Well maybe I'm the truer American.
I'm not part of their liberal perception.
Now everybody cut the contribution.
Don't sing along with the fools of deception.

Welcome to the nation of freedom.
And they think it's all here to please 'em.
Everything wasn't meant to go their way.
Don't they know our love can't be borrowed.
I just hate to sound so sorrowful.
Now they have yet to argue.

Don't wanna be an anti-American.
One nation influenced by it's citizens.
They loved their country and it loved them as well.
But now it's time to put 'em through a living hell.

Welcome to the nation of freedom.
And they think it's all here to please 'em.
Everything wasn't meant to go their way.
Don't they know our love can't be borrowed.
I just hate to sound so sorrowful.
Well it's been fun to argue.

A good point, I think Bush is doing a good job but that's beside the point. I think we need to fight somone else though, System of a Down. I always have found it funny that bands like that attack the country that's giving them freedom.

California just passed legislation providing for gay marriages. The extreme right-wing of the republican party, composed of Christian fundamentalists and anti-abortion fanatics, responded by saying "the union of marriage, under God, should be limited to a man and woman and/or a man and mule only."
Rob - September 08, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, that particular band is definitely worthy of some resistance, possibly more so than Green Day. Don't worry....they'll get it soon...

And oh yeah, "Anti-Republican:" You can dispurse all the rhetoric you want. Whatever makes you feel better. That's what the comment section is for.

Holy crap, man!!!!!!!!!!!! This was one of, if not the, best parody I have ver seen! Perfect pacing, true to the original, and a perfect rallying cry for us true Americans out there. You have a clear talent for this, and I look forward to reading more of your work in the future. Good luck and Godspeed, worthy and noble patriot!

maybe i can't vote yet, who the heck cares??? but even if i could, i would'nt have voted fer that stupid redneck hillbilly of a politician. oh ya, and i'm guessing yer older than me but i'm just askin, did u vote fer him? i bet you did. but if you say everybody has a right to express their opinion, why do you care obout theirs? (theirs meaning green day's) oh ya, just tellin ya this fer laughs, ever wonder why bush always says "weapons of mass distruction"??? he can't pronounce the word "nueclear". i dunno bout u but i think the president should know how to pronounce his words correctly by now. don't you???
Rob - September 18, 2005 - Report this comment
Listen, kid, first off, just because your friends hate Bush doesn't mean they know everything, so stop following in their footsteps. Because one of these days they're going to lead you into a damn wall to break your face on. Secondly, every American president since George Washington have made numerous speeches in front of large crowds. Now look at George Bush; standing up in front of a whole COUNTRY of people (most of which hate his guts, and he knows it) presenting them with long speeches. A pronunciation mistake is inevitable. Try this: organize an assembly meeting at your school and give all the students a nice long speech regarding politics. Make sure you discuss America and it's current affairs and why you think you would be a good leader. Don't forget to appear as if you know what you're talking about too. Until you do that, you are in no position to criticize any individual who is more than twice your age and a hell of a lot smarter than you. Thirdly, never step in your own shit. (I counted exactly 40 grammatical errors in your comment above. Including the word "nuclear.") Now, about Green Day's opinions....technically, I don't really give a hairy rat's ass what they believe. Simply because it doesn't affect me that they think their own country sucks. If they want to live a life of hatred, fine, let them. What DOES affect me is the fact that in their song (American Idiot) they directly insult American citizens. That's wrong, so I wrote my parody for the hell of it. Green Day will probably never see it, but if they do, then great! Now, before you write back, please check all of your words for any spelling mistakes. That way you don't make yourself look like an idiot again. :O)

For your information my friends are all republicans. and i spelled the wrods wrong on purpose, and about green day living "a life of hatred" what's wrong with that??? I do too and i'm doing just fine. living as a goth and in a life of hatred isn't as easy as some idiots think it is... but anyway, how old are u??? and you don't know how old i am so how do you know that you're twice my age and incase you're stupid (not saying you are) and actually thought i wasn't old enough to vote, i was trying to prove a point, i'm actually 26 for your info. but why are we fighting anyway? i never said i didn't respect your opinion, because i do i just think differently. but if you hate green day and you like bush, that's fine with me because i don't care about any other idiot but myself. but the point i was tring to prove was that even if you're not old enough to vaote that doesn't mean you can't have politican opinions. but in a way you are very right. so bye.
Rob - September 18, 2005 - Report this comment
You're friends are all Republicans? Hmm, interesting. Anyway, you say living a life of hatred isn't as easy as some idiots think? That is the most hilarious statement I've heard in awhile. Sure it's easy to hate someone or something, what's difficult is liking someone/something when you secretly hate them/it. You're 26? Wow, I think I just wet my diaper. What a coincidence, I turned 52 last week. Wow. Just wow. I am in shock. I am exactly twice your age. Wow. Just......WOW! Come on, I wasn't referring to myself you silly little confused lamb, I was referring to President Bush. He is well over twice your age no matter how old you say you are. Oh and by the way, point proven; you're a liar-in-training. And I don't know why we are fighting, were you expecting to leave your first comment without any response from me? You really thought it was going to be that easy? Let me tell you something, kid, politics is not for impressionable people. To be a politician you need to have your own opinions, not second-hand perspectives. Plus, you have to be an asshole sometimes. You my friend, are not an asshole. You are young and still learning. Now treat the capacity you have for knowledge with respect, you can go so much further on your own...

I love the "side" approach, it seems much more tasteful and "polished" ...................Robert, the parody was super insightful and so so very relevant! I have NO CLUE why you got 111's, I just do not think there are any nice liberals, honest liberals.... Taking out some "revenge" by awarding 111's is certainly fitting for their mentality and their fairness, but then again, they may as well do the 111 thing, at least it keeps them true to form. ........ I enjoyed your work, sadly, I think the people who did not like it, really are like bricks. No matter what it says, how it says it, the pace can be perfect and the creativity and approach really unique -- they are partisan all the way, even when judging work by non-politicians and non-activists. They have really closed minds. I have been able to read parodies that they (the liberals who write them in here) have written and I have given good marks for pacing, humor and overall scores, (I can laugh at tasteful and admire well done work, even the liberals hot air. I just tend to get annoyed and give lower marks when a parody from a left wing fan is redundant, just calls names and uses bashing without any reasoning, i.e., "dumb stupid clown is a bad bad president" is not really my idea of a clever, well planned, mature or good parody, (although each lib song has a bunch of normal groupies who say a nice word or two and then "555" at the end of their praise. I can't understand their mentality either, score that bunch of name calling grade school playground "crap" well and praise it too? Then these same commenting folk and the author too, run over to a political parody written in fav. of the right, and they blast it badly. It can have facts that they left guys did not, it could do more than spending ever line bashing with the "dumb bad war anti Christian faker president of wars do nothing on vacation killing stupid neonazi poor people hating dumb dummy guy? -- In fact the pro right author could have really made great sound points --- it doesn't matter with them, they are not going to change, they do not want to, and perhaps there are people out there who are going to live in pride, hate, bitterness and rage for the rest of their lives - just cuz they lost an election and the bashing makes them feel like they are important and the groupies, like family. Its a sad thing indeed... ..blah blah, sorry for the lecture or what ever that was... You did well, you do deserve 5's and if it were a lefty who wrote something this good and unique --- and the pacing was on, I would have to give them a 5, 3, 5, ---- Thank you for the parody, I enjoyed it, have a good one, L

Linda said: ". I just tend to get annoyed and give lower marks when a parody from a left wing fan is redundant, just calls names and uses bashing without any reasoning..." Remember these words everyone, no matter which way ye may lean. She also said, "I just do not think there are any nice liberals, honest liberals..." You are unfortunately wrong there. Back to RC's song--not bad at all, twisted the original intent of the song in a thoughtful way like a good parody should.

It is SO not part of my usual regimen to get into these political arguments...but of COURSE there are nice and honest liberals. Look at Mr. Pacholek...he's nice. To me. And there are some days that I've considered moving to Illinois just so that I can vote for Barack Obama.

Totallyevil: LOL no, I'm not 52.

Linda: Wow! Thank you first off for giving me the opportunity to bask in the brilliance you emit! I'm glad to see there are still a few Republicans here. And yes, libbies do tend to occasionally anger (the hell out of) me but, they're still human. The way I see politics is the same way I see airplanes (random, I know...) You've got your left wing, the right wing, and of course the middle pilot. To fly smoothly, all three are required. Sure there's a bit of turbulance throughout the trip, but in the end the aircraft lands safely. Most of the people I hang our with are Democrats or consider themselves to lean in that direction. So I prefer to keep politics out of the way of our friendship. That helps. But when an argument DOES pop up, the morons can't back their stuff up. As long as I rest assured that I am smarter than most of my friends, I will always be happy. (And officially egotized.) I mean, you know what they say about airplane engines right? In the past 5 years, statistics say that the inner left wing engine has a higher risk of failing than the outer left engine or other two right wing engines. Pilots in general tend to put more power on the left wing because statistics ALSO say that left wing engines are capable of more power. (Something the aircraft engineers say.) But just like that, BOOM! Contradicted. Failure. The Pilot then has to depend on the right wing engines to get his innocent ass home....funny how nature seems to write itself out huh? Anyway, enough of this old fasioned Texas cliche stuff. It was nice chattin' with ya', Linda.

Agrimorfee: Thank you.

Arwen: Sure there are. But no matter how nice anyone seems (Democrat or Republican), somebody in this world is sick of his/her shit.

Anti-Republican - Your facts are off in your comments above. It was many many more people than what you call the "extreme right-wing of the republican party, composed of Christian fundamentalists and anti-abortion fanatics, responded by saying "the union of marriage, under God, should be limited to a man and woman and/or a man and mule only". Had it just been the extreme right in our state, the vote a couple of years ago against Gay marriages in CA would not have won by such a huge landslide, now would it?
Anti-Republican - September 23, 2005 - Report this comment
What happens, Linda, is that you right-wing, bible-thumping, anti-choice fascists lie to the American people. You preach fear - so, you're probably right - there probably were more than just the fanatical wing of your party. Why do the gays bother you so much? Do you really think that they're out to recruit others? I mean, do you fear waking up some morning and discovering that you've "turned" gay? You right-wing, bible-thumping, anti-choice fascists are really too preoccupied with the sex lives of others. You might want to take a look at your own party - your cross-bearer, Neal Horsley says that the reality is that everyone who grows up on a farm has a mule as their first girlfriend; yet he sees gays as being abnormal. Do you hate all gays, my fascist friend? What about Cheney's daughter? The Log Cabin Republicans? Why don't you just keep your bible-thumping nose in your own business and let people be people?
Linda - September 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Anti-Republican - My but you are off base and over-emotional aren't you? I simply gave you the facts, I didn't tell you anything about myself. I don't preach fear and I certainly do not think I will wake up gay someday, that is just silly. I doubt most people think such a silly thing as that! I have nothing against gay people, nothing at all. Just because I am not gay, doesn't mean that I do not like them. I have two very close friends (and others not so close) that are gay, one male and one female. As for your name calling, every good deed deserves another: you are a hot-headed, fanitical, baby killing ass, how's that? If that is not good enough, I have lots more!

Oh, these comments are truly scintillating. Really, mmm, just scintillating stuff. Nice parody, Rob. For future projects, work on changing the choruses each time, it just makes a more enjoyable read and you can fit more stuff in.
Rob - September 30, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, I was trying to stick with the same chorus for the right sound. When you have two seperate choruses in a song it sounds like a run-on musical. But I appreciate the criticism and hope to receive more of it from you.
