When I sing or type it I take some words out so it fits better.
The merchant of Venice was one of many classics written by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare was one of few people who don’t believe in how the Jews got treated by Christians. Jewish people were treated horribly by Christians. I think Shakespeare wrote the play to highlight the way the Jewish people were treated; he wanted to bring it to the attention of the people in the audience. The play was set in Venice because it was a huge trading port. Shylock was one of the many main characters in the play; he was a Jewish money lender who was treated very badly by all the Christians in the play. He had to be a money lender, that’s all he could be.
Antonio is another main character, he is a Christian merchant who hated Jews. Antonio and shylock first met when watching a Jew being tossed off the bridge. After watching it they walked into each other, Antonio then spat upon him after he said hello. Later a man named Bassanio came to Antonio asking for money, Bassanio and Antonio are good friends. Bassanio needs money to meet the woman of his dreams and hopefully they would both fall in love and be married but there is a problem all of Antonio’s money is stored on three boats and he would need all of this money to pay Bassanio. He tells Bassanio to go find a money lender so he can pay to go to
