The Lyrics

Listening to the OS, I was struck by how much nostalgic drivel it contained. So this kind of had to be written.
Oh I've never seen a punk rocker with flowers in her hair
Maybe superglue and pointy spikes that stick out everywhere
Wearing unwashed clothes, and a pretty vacant stare
No, there's never been a punk rocker with flowers in her hair

World's in a state as we all know
But it weren't great decades ago
There never was a golden age which nowadays has gone
There never were "those good ol' days"
That are worth showering with praise
But some people only look back with rose-tinted glasses on

Oh I've never seen a punk rocker with flowers in her hair
Leather, yes, and zippers too.. but flowers? Not a prayer
They were all, let's face it, a sartorial nightmare
No, there's never been a punk rocker with flowers in her hair

There're pop stars with just half a wit
Who're ignorant as ****ing shit
They witter on and on about "the way things used to be"
Singing total, utter junk
Confusing "flower power" with punk
There's something no one ever saw in 1970:

No, I've never seen a punk rocker with flowers in her hair
Punk didn't go for shit like that - how can't you be aware
If you're a decade out, maybe that's your affair
But there's never been a punk rocker with flowers in her hair

When I said this, I meant irony:
Nostalgia's not what it used to be
At least try being nostalgic about things that really were
Don't make yourself look a real twit
Singing songs 'bout made-up shit
Assuming angry anarchists wore flowers in their hair

Oh I've never seen a punk rocker with flowers in her hair
Always annoyed and angry - maybe something in the air?
And just like today, the world back then didn't care
No, there's never been a punk rocker with flowers in her hair
And I'll say't again: the world back then didn't care
So please shut up 'bout punk rockers with flowers in their hair

:) Thanks. I plan on singing this one at my next gig - I think it's got a nice ranting feel to it.

I remember thinking pretty much the same thing when I first heard TOS on the radio a few years back, but then again they say that if you remember the 60s you weren't really there so maybe the author really was and now has things confused, maybe even more se than this comment...
