Original Song Title:

"Tear Drops On My Guitar"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Taylor Swift

Parody Song Title:

"Gaping Hole In My New Car"

Parody Written by:

Kevin Wrightly

The Lyrics

The light turns green
I take my foot off the brake
I start to go i should have seen
A flying car for goodness sake
I can't turn lefty or right so stomp on the gas
how the hell is that car moving so fast
he crashed into me, i start to feel that i can't breathe
i hear some smashing glass, and then a couple screams
i hear an ambulance and now i know just what this means

He's the reason for the gaping hole in my new car
finally a reason to call william mattar
he's the kink in my neck it keeps throbbing so i wear this brace

x rays and ekg's they try to find out what is wrong with me
skin graft another patch the other guy comes out without a scratch
he better pay my bills or i will sue his ass
take all his money and take my kids to disneyland

chorus

so i turn off the light in my brand new home
i've got it made though i'm not right in the dome

so learn from me look left and right before you cross the street

This is my first parody and i've got plenty more to follow. I take requests and can usually come up with something pretty quick so let me know. I thought this one was pretty good!

Kevin, the entry you wanted to place in SOTM was posted in March, and we are currently on the February SOTM thread, this song qualifies, when March gets posted (at the completion of the month) if you want to enter the one you initially entered for March, it will qualify for that, however for this month's SOTM contest, this was your only qualified entry, I took the liberty to assume you'd like to enter it instead however if you would rather wait until next month and enter one of the other two and skip this month let me know over in the SOTM contest, I figured being your first month you were looking to get your feet wet in contests, so since you hadn't seen the reply as to how the SOTM works, I tried to make sure you weren't left out by entering this one for you instead. . .good luck and welcome to AmIRight

This wasn't bad (except for the reason that I hate Taylor Swift, yuck! She's HOT don't get me wrong, but sappy love-song country crap? No thank you!) A little bit more practice and reading of how other people style their parodies would help you out a lot, but this is a good start for any newbie and I'm glad you found us early cause we'll be able to help you out along the way.

Thanks dave and matthais I've been reading a lot of the parodies and I am really interested in doing a lot more(so many ideas in this crazy head of mine) thank you for the push and info on how to get better

A huge step up on the lyrical pit of darkness that is the OS.. I agree completely with what Matthias said.

Another cautionary tale! There were a few of those this month... I hope this wasn't from a personal experience.

(SOTM) A little bit confusing to read through, but I got the general gist of it. Ah well, practice makes perfect, etc. Keep at it, Kevin!

(SOTM) welcome to the fold kevin - esp the more intimate SOTM fold - I almost thought you were channeling wannabemustangjockey at first (whatever became of him?) - nice effort and I hope you stick around - 555

(SOTM) As others have said, welcome to the SOTM, it's a great way to get comments, praise and constructive criticism on your work. . .Of course you already qualify for next month. My first piece of advise is chorus variation. Think of it as repeating a joke over and over again, every time you repeat a chorus in essence that's what it does, is repeats the joke. On some parodies that works, but on most it becomes as repetitive as the original songs we parody. It also allows you more space to show your comedic genius. If you do choose to repeat choruses, it's always better to type them out (or in many cases copy paste works just as well) so that they can be followed along to the original. Congrats on entering, and remember it's all about getting commentary on what is good and what could be better, welcome to the fold, hope to read more by you!

SOTM...I totally agree with Dave (and anyone else who might have said it, I didn't read all the comments) that this would have been better with a couple different choruses. The pacing was off for me...and the layout of your lyrics made it kind of awkward...but I love the OS, and you said "Disneyland," which is like a magic word for me...so this did make me smile.

Welcome to SOTM and to amiright. If this is your first parody then I would say it's a fine first effort.
At the beginning it got me thinking about an old song called "DOA" by a band called Bloodrock.
Glen S - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
Well done. Good pacing through and through. 'he's the kink in my neck' stood out as an excellent sub.
Jeff Reuben - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Another welcome! The standard "vary the choruses" comment has been posted, so I'll say that this was a fine job, and I look forward to more of your songs as well.

Lyrically and conceptually very funny. Although the pacing gets a little off, but still good.
