The Lyrics

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge Green Day fan, and I do this spoof out of love...but it does seem pretty easy to create the Green Day style. Original Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rVC87DY7Cs
TV after dark
A new infomercial’s on…

[Commercial Voice Over]
“Are you so unhappy?
Looking for a life that’s bold?
You can be a rocker,
There’s no need to sell your soul!

Once you pick up the guitar
Play three chords and then…
The new life that you asked for’s ready to begin
Oh yes, you….

You can be in Green Day! (Have to order today)
You can be in Green Day! (Not hard to be Green Day)
You can be in Green Day! (The same three chords you’ll play)”

[Poor Sap]
Voices in my head are saying, “Have to order now!”

Hot Topic culture
Is where I’m assigned
Was once a dunce
Now makeup’s near my eyes (ooohhh)

[Commercial Voice Over]
It is not that hard
Re-sing the beginning part
Yeah, sure people might call you dumb, “Oh not that song again”
Sing about ol’ Dub’ya, it will give your life a win!

You’re playing all sold out shows
Man, it is really rad!
But must make room for Usher, have one minute left!
But still, you…

You could be in Green Day! (I could be in Green Day?)
You could be in Green Day! (Not hard to be Green Day)
You could be in Green Day! (Is this stuck on replay!?)
“I’m not Justin Bieber!” Smash your guitar, then storm out!

[Poor Sap Testimonial]
Sing kinda vulgar
And my life’s defined
Was once a dunce
But Green Day’s changed my life!

(OOOHHHHHHH)

[Commercial Voice Over]
Only nineteen-ninety-nine!
Then you’ll get it down!

You could be in Green Day! (You should be in Green Day)
You could be in Green Day! (You should order today)
(It’s not all that hard) You could be in Green Day! (Sorry, but no pre-pay)
(Songs are not that hard) You could be in Green Day! (You’ll be cool right away!)
You could be in Green Day!
You should order now!

You could be in Green Day! (Is this still on replay?!)
You could be in Green Day! (Just repeat what he says)
You could be in Green Day! (Just three chords you will play)

Perfect Christmas gift so you all should just order now!

In the immortal words of Alice Bowie: "I ONLY KNOW THREE CHORDS!"

I remember when the singer confessed to have been a bedwetter as a child and someone (Jay Leno?) made a joke about it suggesting they should change their name from Green Day to Yellow Night! Can I pass on tour bus bunking under him if I purchase a place in the band?

(SOTM) [Britney Spears]Sorry, I just didn't get it.[/Britney Spears] The pacing appears to have been spot on, but I didn't quite get the joke or the TV infomercial voiceover. I love Green Day, but as someone who has parodied their magnum opus American Idiot (and their Dookie hit "Brain Stew"), this parody wasn't as funny as I'd hoped. This could have been as funny as "So Easy to Parody Green Day," but it wasn't. But then again, I guess I'm spoiled from having read the other parodies in the competition. But you get an A for effort.

This was a pretty good satire of Green Day but I liked your other Green Day rip a bit more. Still it was nice to hear Green Day's new song.

Oct 2012 SOTM: "The same three chords you’ll play" Heh heh. You had me there! Says it all :)

More support for the 'three chords' line here. Thanks for serving these guys, they deserve it after the trend in music, the ROCK BAND video game and the BROADWAY SHOW featuring those SAME THREE CHORDS. Lots of great lines, but the 'You could be in Green Day! (I could be in Green Day?)' stanza stood out for me with it's call and repeat.

(SOTM) I'm fairly certain if "Green Day" was replaced with any other punk band name this parody would be as equally valid. Pretty good parody, 555 worthy, but could've been a bit more focused, I guess.

(SOTM) I liked 're-sing the beginning part' particularly as that is exactly what they were doing in the OS, and also 'is this stuck on replay?'

(SOTM) I'll agre that it's not your funniest parody to date (not even your funniest Green Day jab), but I enjoyed the how the energy of the song matched the infommertial template you were using I was very amused by that.

SOTM...not really a Green Day fan, and I don't know if I were, if this would have been funnier for me...but it was well written, and I did like the "I'm Not Justin Bieber" image... :)
