Parody Song Title:

"On Wall Street, There We'll Live"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

"Occupy Wall Street" moved into its fourth week without a coherent message or spokesperson. Some celebrity agitators arrived to inspire the hundreds who are enduring the Autumn weather 24/7. TOS sympathized with the plight of waiting for that special someone. Will it be The Community Organizer?
I have often talked down Wall Street before,
But enslavement always stayed me in my seat before.
All at once am I on a soaring high,
Knowing I'm on Wall Street; there we'll live.

Are there finance fees in Manhattan town? [1]
Can you share a park with ev'ry human brat in town?
Does enrichment pour on the homeless poor?
It's unjust on Wall Street where we'll live.

I-vo-ry tower-like feeling
Just to know that Cornel West's near;
The flower-power-y healing
When Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore appear.

People stop and share their own sob sto-ry, [2]
For there's nowhere else on Earth where we could gather free.
Bet their crimes are high; I want share of pie [3]
From beasts [4] here on Wall Street where we'll live.
[1] Refers to a proposed per-transaction tax.
[2] I know, I mismatched plural with singular.
[3] Does not refer to the "Occu-pie" vegan pizza being ordered and delivered there.
[4] The Merrill-Lynch bull statue, for example, or the human "fat cats".

OWS began on September 17, so it's in its 3rd week, not 4th yet. I could have finished with "who should give" instead of "where we'll live."

BJM - Way to deal them a (Lerner and) Loewe blow! I hear Occupy L.A., D.C., etc. are going great guns...Occupy Cincinnati not so much. ;D

OMR: Thanks for your pun-ditry. Yes, USA is now besieged like Europe. :^ (

Excellent "I-vo-ry tower-like/flower-power-y" wordplay. I agree that there is not much of a cogent message, but one of their complaints that makes some sense is that they are annoyed that some Wall Street firms got bailed out. They are correct to be annoyed, but they should be annoyed at Washington, DC for bailing them out, not at Wall Street for accepting the bail outs.
Tommy Turtle - October 06, 2011 - Report this comment
John Jenkins said what I had thought all along: Blame DC for the bailout. Strangely, they don't. ... plus, do the protesters really think that adding a transactions tax is going to lower the protesters' cost of living, or that it will create more jobs?

Fiddlegirl's and TT's spin, part of the parody of entire musical, "My Fair Lady" used the original, as written by Lerner/Loewe, and aside from us using the intro, about 'Liza and the spoon, seems there was an instrumental where yours stops, then another stanza. But if Williams did just this (just as most versions of "White Christmas" skip the intro), cool. 444, + vote tax of 111 = 555.

"Sixty percent (60%) of American adults still believe the financial industry bailouts were a bad idea. Democrats are more supportive of the Wall Street assistance than Republicans or those not affiliated with either major party."

So why aren't the protesters protesting the Democratic Party?

Walt Kelly, creator of the seminal comic strip Pogo, named these media darlings over 40 years ago. S.W.I.N.E. - Students Wildly Indignent about Nearly Everything. Some things never change. This parody is F.I.N.E - Five Is Not Enough!

JJ: Thanks; I had to hyphenate in case TT visited, which he has done.
I believe that DC has been "occupied" now, and I hope that they move to PA Ave.
TT: I admit that I used AW's abbreviated version, to make deadline. Thanks for the 25% bonus.
Ftsp: When I walk on a beach, I find only fiddler crabs not girls. ;^)
RP: As Herman Cain asserts, many are "brainwashed" by Dems & media.
Pf: Thanks for WK's acronym & yours. They're not all students today.

Yeah, but wait until you get hit with the "soak-the-rich" tax on everyone making more than 333....

Honored to be the pacing-and-stress conscience of AIR, even by the mere threat that "at any moment (he) may suddenly appear"... oh, sh*t (feels an ad-lib coming)

I have often browsed through this site before
But the pace and stress have never seemed so right before
He's no dunce; hence I: Mitchel, scoring high
Hyphen: neat! Quite elite! Fives, I give!

In point of fact, it would have been very difficult to read "Ivory" as "And, oh, the" without the guidance of the hyphen: [1]

i-VO-ry           for
and OH, the ....

Hmm, follow-up idea:
"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"
"Using (This is Why) A Hyphen"

Having already done something close to that (sort of),
"Losing (Don't Know Why) Your Hymen"
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles2030.shtml
, you may have the above idea. (Another Transcaction Tax Plug, although "plug' could be ... n/m. ;)

The bailouts were proposed by Republican POTUS GW Bush, but Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. In each house, a majority of the Dems supported it, and a majority of GOP opposed it. So it was passed by a majority of Democrats against opposition by a majority of the (minority) Republicans.

I wonder if many of the protesters know that.
I wonder if_any_of the protesters know that.
Someone should ask them.

TT (aka Ftsp): You certainly were brilliant 4 and 3 years ago (& today;^).
Regarding hyphens, I should have used one in Saran-don also.
T-m: I recall that Hank Paulson closeted bankers and pressured solvent banks to take a bailout, to hide risky ones.

But apparently not last Thursday, or is drooling over Sarah P.'s other "qualifications" too juvenile for your tastes? :) (TT's demographic includes a vast quantity of equally-immature readers. xD)

Despite having co-starred in a movie with her (well, sort of), I DK whether it's SAR-an-Don or sar-AND-on, but either way, the first flowed easily enough from K-ing TOS, even without the hyphen.

Also liked the fine execution of the Major-Generalish third-from-end rhyme scheme of "-hattan town / brat in town".
"sob stor-y" / rather be" was good enough given the rest (excellent), but maybe

People sob and share (nice play on "stop and stare") stories blather-y
........................................................................................rather be.

OK, enough Monday-morning QB-ing.

Re: Paulson: Check out Timothy Geitner's denial of knowledge of AIG bonuses, purchases of assets way above actual market value, etc. -- TG had about $350 billion left from TARP, and seemed to enjoy handing it out. He was instrumental in the bailout of Bear Sterns and AIG even as Pres. of the NY Fed.
Plenty of blame to go around, but one keeps finding Democrats in this mess everywhere. Not excusing Bush or Paulson, just think both the media coverage and the protesters are missing some important points - but what else is new? Cheers.

TT: By "today", I meant "ever since"; it was just a friendly jab that I would give to only the best. Cf. "and they're marching still straight today" from The Music Man, implies a continuity of previously-learned qualities.
