The Lyrics

Ever get one of those PC games that refuses to work right...?
The PC game - well it is loadin'
Horns are blarin' - cars explodin'
Here I can drive to kill - it's not verboten
Pedestrians beware - carnage will see me gloatin'
But I cannot change the gearing - or is it broken?
Searched the box now over and over and over and in the end
Ah I don't believe - there are no easy instructions

Don't you game makers understand my dismay?
An' can't you see I just wanna blaze away?
When the button was pushed I expected to play
If I got hold of you there would be hell to pay
I would really jump for joy, if things I could destroy
An' my angst boils over and over so till the joystick I bend
Ah I don't believe - there are no easy instructions

Yeah my blood's so mad - big business I'm a-hatin'
I'm sittin' here just carbon datin'
I can't change the gears - can't tell of my frustration
Handful of valium won't see me sedatin'
Bet I'm not alone in my desperation
A few simple lines I could be translatin'
If I catch you guys you'll need armor platin'
An' you sell me something quite worthless and is this what you intend?
Ah I don't believe - there are no easy instructions

Think of all the angst - I've now got angina
If I could play the game this minor would feel finer
I simply refuse to play this disgrace
Box may be useful for a packing case?
It wouldn't even win a potato race
Think this game it should head for a legal case
Hate the PC game place that sold it with a straight face
You've screwed me over and over and yet I can't comprehend
I don't believe - there are no easy instructions
No no I don't believe - there are no easy instructions

Remind me to never play video games with you two. Then again, some of us think "video games with Merry & Pippin" means something else completely.

Looks like you don't need the instructions, after all: You just scored 3 kills at 5 pts each.

I just love it when a self-important hippie protest song gets used like this. Great job.

Thanks guys! This one was Pippin authored from beginnning to end, except for some pacing changes on my part. (And that means I can conveniently blame Pip for the missing 't' in the title... hee hee)

Thank you all for your comments (and Merry) for the credit. We may have to disagree on the title spelling reason though!

Adding to what Spaff said, the rhyming in this is killer. I particularly liked "verboten."
Paul Robinson - May 24, 2004 - Report this comment
(ABC) Great job here. 5's clever rhyming. Yeah, "verboten" but also "angina" with minor & finer.

Yeah, the variation of rhyming in this song really grabs me. Great stuff. 4.5/5/5, rounded up.

I hear video games have gotten a little better since the Atari and stuff; I'll hafta try em one of these days. Anyway, still great fun here.
neminem - May 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Hehe... Claude: I'd have to say that depends entirely on which Atari game you're talking about, and which modern one ;-). Cause there are Atari 2600 games that hands-down beat some of the crap being spewed out. On the other hand, there's also ET :-D.
