The Lyrics
A Day in the Strife
I read the news today: "Convoy
Of Unlucky Men Hit with Hand Grenades."
Other news was equally bad:
Run-amok prison staffs;
We saw the photographs.
Mindless insurgents blow up cars.
They haven't noticed that the times have changed.
Crowds of people still fill the squares;
They want to leave before
Somebody secures an RPG
And strikes the teeming hordes.
A film of oil where the convoy
Of English soldiers were lost in the war.
A crowd of looters led the way.
They took a look and took
All that wasn't cooked.
We'd love to turn this off.
Toke up—some Afghan Red.
Take a drag. . .out of your head.
Sounds a ways off there—something blew up.
Things looking up? That's what the dope will prate.
[sound of Bush guffawing: "Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh, heh, heh.]
Sounds of boats attacking rafts
Filled with fuel oil, fore to aft.
Pounding at their lairs—a hit; there's smoke.
One hit this bloke, and he goes into a scream:
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow ow, ow, ow, ow, ow ow!"
I read the news today: those boys—
One thousand cold in Dover, Delaware.
They keep the cold behind a wall,
Where they can count them all.
How many cold would there be if Albert had won back that fall?
We'd love to turn this off.
