Song Parodies -> "SEC (vs. Madoff)"

Original Song Title:

"Yesterday"

Original Performer:

Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"SEC (vs. Madoff)"

Parody Written by:

Barry J. Mitchel

The Lyrics

Thanks to John A. Barry whose song of the same name SEC (to another Beatles' tune) inspired this one. See Yesterday for the original lyrics.
SEC
Called our troubles coming "far away".
Now the crooks of dough are here to stay.
Oh, they believed in "faire laissez".

Suddenly,
They dropped half the bans that used to be.
Bernie Madoff's tanking like Ponzi.
Oh, SEC's lame suddenly.

Why they let him go I don't know;
They wouldn't say.
Why say "Something's wrong
Now" while long investors stay?

SEC
Wasn't much displeased and came to say,
"We can't find a trace of his foul play."
Oh, they believed he was OK.

Why funds did not grow I don't know;
He wouldn't say.
He did something wrong,
Now he longs for yesterday.

Yesterday,
He sold such a sleazy game to play.
Now high greedy face the light of day,
Go sigh, weep, grieve for yesterday.
Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm............

The financial crisis and the new régime in DC will, if nothing else, provide plenty of material to write about.

Actually, the massive diversion of FBI, SEC, and other Fed law-enforcement resources to the "war on terror" left less to oversee this stuff, and I don't believe they "let him go" or dropped any bans on fraudulent dealing. Would also take issue that "Laissez-faire" economics does *not* include lying, cheating, stealing, or fraud. But the reversal for the sake of rhyme was clever. With the factual issues, 534.

Good take on Bernard Madoff putting the con into economics. I agree with TT's "laissez-faire" interpretation, but the parody was very well done.
