The Lyrics

Between the period of 1888 to 1891, a serial killer known as 'Jack The Ripper' terrorized London's East End, known as Whitechapel. He brutally murdered five prostitutes. Everyone's heard the story, through the many films, books, and plays written about it. To this day the case remains unsolved.
He was known as.... 'Jack The Ripper'
And he murdered.... girls at night
Used a big knife,.... as his weapon
Hid in alleys,.... out of sight

In London, England,.... eighteen eighties
Prowled those mean streets,.... takin' a life
Prostitutes there,.... became his targets
You might call him,... call him, Jack The Knife..

They were ugly.... vicious killings,
People panicked, ...and they were gripped with fear,
About where that dark caped ...hooded killer,
Jack The Knife, ....would next appear...

For almost three years, ...He spread grim terror,
On Whitechapel's... foggy nights,
And left his victims.... mutilated
Down In the gutters,... by gas lights...

Scotland Yard had ....just two suspects,
Not enough evidence...to charge them with
One hundred years now, ...and still no ending
To this old mystery, ...and all of the myth

Annie Chapman, Mary Nichols,
Catherine Eddowes, Lizzie Stride
And Mary Jane Kelly...These are the victims,
Bless their poor souls,... Who have died..

Nice parody AF1. I am not normally a squeamish person, but one thing I could never look at (after the first time) was that last photo of Mary Kelly whenever there is a Jack the Ripper documentary on... :-(

You are aware that "The Threepenny Opera," from which this song comes, was based in part on Jack the Ripper, right?

Thanks Michael and John...Ya' know? I thought that might have been the case...but in researching the net...I couldn't find any solid statement to the fact...either way, I got my three cents in...

The original was actually done in the 50s (as well as Bobby Darin's version, which this parody is based on), but that's relatively minor. I liked this parody very much, so I give it a 5,5,5 vote. Nice work, Afw.

I made the same mistake. The song is from the Threeepenny Opera, but it's not about Jack the Ripper, at least not entirely. The Threepenny Opera (German) was a remake of the Beggar's Opera (English) which itself was a parody poking fun at the government and richies. In Beggar's, Macheath was the "civilized" thief. In Threepenny his character is rewritten (Mack the Knife/Mackie Messer) as a virtue-less mobster and general all-around bad guy. It is possible that the Mackie character was partly based on Jack the Ripper but it is a little bit of a stretch. Also there is a song called Jack the Knife which is about Jack the Ripper by some metal band Falconer, which I came across trying to find info about Mack the Knife. I like your version better, at least it honors the dead.
