The Lyrics

To get anything out of this, you have to have seen the 1939 film version of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
See Hunchy--how big it's grown.
He rings those bells just like a gong,
The sound, too's, big--
210 dB--his hearing's bad
(The way Charles Laughton plays him, he looks lots like a pig.)
Lives in Notre Dame,
Gets sanctuary and three squares a day,
(Once played Captain Bligh
Unlike Sir Laurence, not knighted).
Slips among the belfry bells
In the spires so high.

Esmerelda stole his heart;
Though she was a Gypsy tart, he loved her so.
She don't despise him 'cause he's humpy,
Though when she first sees him, she thinks, "a freak show."
To keep secure, he carried her
Up to the tower, tempting fate.
And down below,
Some of the siegers there were dyin'
'Cause he'd dumped stones, molten lead, wood on foes.

Oh, Hunchy, they dissed you,
Didn't treat you good.
As a result they've miffed you--
Down come stones and wood.

Maureen O'Hara was the gal
Who became Quasimodo's pal.
He was perplexed
When he was on the pillory
And called for water, guiltless, she
Would sponge his neck.

The Dame's gnome unrepentantly
Said, "Guys are always needlin' me.
I am hideous, they say.
I do my thing, on the rope swing,
Make the sounds boom when the bells ring."
He bent to pray.

Oh, Hunchy, they dissed you,
Didn't treat you good
As a result they've miffed you--
You're misunderstood.

The Dame was Quasimodo's home,
A Gothic masterpiece in stone,
A place in Seine,
Where the prelates had been mentoring Hunchy--
They realized he was not insane.
But jive made peremptory rage
And Hunchy's ire grew much inflamed
And just blew up.
He raised a timber o'er his head
And shoved it down--some men were dead
From Hunchy's shove.

Seethes Hunchy, his miffedness grown,
He's thrown stones and more on the throng;
Some were quite big.
He laughed on like a man that's mad;
He snapped because he couldn't take one more verbal dig.

What though the votes be great or small, this Notre Dame song wins over all.

Despite the many lines that were syntactically strangled into submission, I literally L'dOL on this song. Very, very, funny stuff.

A lot of good lines. I commend your discipline for choosing "neck" as your rhyme for "perplexed" and I commend your creativity for coining "miffedness." And why wasn't Charles Laughton knighted?

Your poetry puts Poe to shame.
