The Lyrics

Federated Department Stores, parent company of Macy's, has announced that all Marshall Field's department stores located in 8 states will be changed to Macy's in 2006, prompting angry reactions from many Chicago shoppers, where Marshall Field's is a downtown Chicago icon
(instrumental intro)

Marshall Field's had been bought out by Macy's;
New owners gonna change the store title.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

From South Dakota to Indiana,
Some shoppers thought Field's was their nirvana.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

Name change to Macy's was called rotten;
Marshall Field's won't be forgotten.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

From South Dakota to Indiana,
Some shoppers thought Field's was their nirvana.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

Marshall Field's had been bought out by Macy's;
New owners gonna change the store title.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

From South Dakota to Indiana,
Some shoppers thought Field's was their nirvana.
There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

Name change to Macy's was called rotten;

There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

From South Dakota to Indiana,

There will be... Marshall Field's no more.

First Macy's came into New Jersey and wiped out Bamberger's. Then they went into New England and eliminated Jahden Mahsh -- I mean, Jordan Marsh. Now they're going into the Midwest to eradicate Marshall Field? My sister worked for Macy's for two days, and she says they're a horrible company to work for. All of which begs the question: Why don't they try a hostile takeover of Wal-Mart?

You kinda paint a violent picture. Truth is, M.F. has been losing money for the past couple years and May Company saw a good thing...it wasn't a hostile takeover. Nevertheless, speaking as a diehard Chicagoan, it will be sad to see the name die.

Seven lines streeeeeetched into ten humor-free verses.

Hey, Gee... Creedence's version repeated the verses in the same fashion, and in the same order.

Hey, Donovan... So what? A parody starts with a blank slate. Whether it becomes creative and funny depends on the parodist, not the original composer.

No we're not. Also, how did this get so many votes with so few commenters?

The Gee birds are wrong, too.
