Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"That’s Omertà"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Parallels between the Catholic church and the Mafia are many, among them, adherence to Omertà, the code of silence.
Rome, Italy—no one’s talking.
When priest meats boy—what’s up, don’t say!

A big guy hits [on] small fry and the coverup runs high,
That’s Omertà.
Who gets fined? Who does time? No one pays for these crimes.
That’s Omertà.
Swelled-up thing swings like censer swings (hell! kid, kiss the ring),
Stick it in little fella.
Padres played licky-dick, ’s OK; still their shtik today,
And they say, “Kid, no tell-a!”

The padres start to drool then wield their tools after school,
That’s Omertà.
But keep romance discreet, says the guy on the seat high above.
Prelate pedophiles teem, still they stay on the team;
Church no care ta
Abuse see, Sicily-like is its secrecy.
That’s Omertà.

A heavenly n' Belzebubbly send-up of a hellish topic--with some mighty devilish wordplay; if Leherer penned it would it read: 'Time to trans-substancia'rape?)

I would give this parody a five... that is, if this parody actually existed. You have shown the proper... respect. And now your enemies will become my enemies. And then... they will fear you. Maybe you, Guy DiRito (who's done a few) and I should get together and do a Mob-parodies "concept album."

I attended Catholic schools and do not recall any time a priest behaving inappropriately nor even having access to do so. I have not heard of widespread abuse in other large religious organizations. The Catholic Church has invited Anglicans to return to the fold, with married priests welcome. This will ultimately lead to acceptance of married priests on a larger scale than now exists. Probably not with this Pope, but perhaps the next. In the past few decades a decline in vocations led the Church to be less selective than it should have been in admitting candidates to the seminaries. One hopes the Vatican will correct its mistakes and adopt stricter safeguards. Your parody is a great adaptation, with a bit of Italian flavor.
