The Lyrics

Spaff's "King Kong" to Aerosmith's "Dream On" is tough to top, but this was a title just begging to be used, especially with the new film coming out soon. And I love Dusty Springfield. (Yes, I know, with no tail, a gorilla is an ape but not a monkey. Don't push me.)
When I said, "You great big brute"
he said, "I just wanna play."
It isn't him who's bad but you
so don't blow him away.

Don't you see that now he's climbed
the tallest building of our time
had no choice to go with him
but this wasn't no crime!

You don't have to slay the monkey.
Just open his hand.
You don't have to open fire.
Won't you understand?
Believe me, believe me
he can't help but love me.
But believe me, he won't let me fall down!

Left on observation deck.
He looks dead and so unreal.
All that's left is film remakes.
The bad end of the deal.

You don't have to slay the monkey.
Just open his hand.
You don't have to open fire.
Won't you understand?
Believe me!
Believe me!
Oh!

You don't have to slay the monkey.
Just open his hand.
You don't have to open fire.
Won't you understand?
Believe me!
Believe me!
Believe me!

Wow, I had a totally different mental image than King Kong when I thought of "slaying the monkey". :-0

All you gotta do is send Peter Gabriel up there with a stun-gun.

Slaying the monkey? Bananas? What are we really talking about here? (looks suspiciously at others)

YWM: You would. LOL. Johnny: I thought of that, it might have been enlightening. Rick: How big is the room? Royce: I'm not sure if that's a compliment...

Michael, I'm not sure how big the room is. I was making a poor pun off of "Room Full of Monkeys". On the messageboard, somewhere, is a posting that says newbies should be familiar with him/them but, I don't have a clue. Perhaps you could enlighten me???

Excellent work, Michael! =)

Rick: "A Room Full of Monkeys" is a pseudonym for a collective apparently led by Claude Prez, sometimes (but apparently not always) also including Johnny D. They're usually pretty funny. I even wrote a tribute to them: "Monkeys Room" to the tune of the Beach Boys' "In My Room." Admittedly, a way of getting Arwen's sappy "Mister Bloom" out of my head.

I'm with you on the loving Dusty Springfield thing. The scene in Pulp Fiction where Vincent Vega is speaking over the intercom to the as-yet-unseen Mrs. Marcellus Wallace - with "Son of a Preacher Man" in the background - is one of the sexiest movie scenes ever. Anyhoo - great job on the parody and thanks for the shout-out. And ya gotta love Johnny BD's comment.
